charlie caller 3,654
Yes they are separate operations, as SS says, the neck sizing and full length sizing dies have a de-capper in them, the case flare die is used after case re-sizing, it very gently flares the case neck, allowing easy seating of the bullet, then the last operation is the factory crimp die, which as the name suggests applies a factory crimp to the neck of the case, you do not need to have a bullet with a canellure/groove on it, and the crimp will provide very even start pressure to the bullet, if you want accurate hornet ammo, at the very least get the crimp die, but they are both only about a tenner each, so get both Edited August 11, 2014 by charlie caller Quote Link to post

andyf 144
I've been reloading for 23 years, I bought a Lee Anniversary kit to start with and I'm still using most of it today! Sure I've bought loads of extra kit over the years, including a Lee Cast Iron press, because I found large centrefire brass was a bit 'much' for the aluminium press that came with the kit, you could see it deflecting when under stress. Also acquired an RCBS electronic scale, it's much quicker than a balance beam, & I weigh every powder charge. I actually only use the old press just for bullet seating now, I have both presses side by side on my bench. Lee dies are also ok, I have moved over to RCBS dies for my 3 calibre requirement as I only neck size my fired brass, and RCBS is top notch stuff, but not overly better than Lee, RCBS if anything seems to 'wear' a bit better. Hornet brass is very light gauge, I haven't loaded it myself but friends have and there is a fair bit of 'attrition' in the case department, but that's the calibre not the reloading kit. Cedric 132
Good info. A Lee kit it is then! I'll try and find a dealer who can supply the dies as well - any recomendations? I picked up the rifle today, after nearly 8 hours up and down the M6 , so off for a shot in the morning - then I'll sort out the trigger, it's dreadfull. Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Henry Krank should sort you out with Lee collet dies in .22 hornet, and case flare, and factory crimp dies Quote Link to post
