Great Way To Cap It Off!

Recommended Posts

So today was our last day on Guernsey, after a great couple of weeks.

The kids have kayaked, swam and fished a lot, saw dolphins in the yaks, a sun fish yesterday whilst having a paddle about, and today a massive seal came up and snorted at us..

I hooked and lost the huge tope right alongside the kayak and caught some nice pollack and a nice bass... All in all great fun!

We headed off to the west coast today, a beach called Vazon, it's a typical surf beach, very slightly shelving and lovely sand..

I couldn't resist on more go in the yaks, so at 2pm with a 4-15 high tide, me and fin set off with cousin john and his daughter in the other yak.

I set up a real light spinning outfit, braided line and a 5" savage lure..

It was flat calm as we paddled out into the bay, we headed for the far headland and a big reef with huge boulders that came right up just under the surface ( this is perilous for boats, but great on the yaks). The tide was pushing hard, and the water was boiling around the rocks, I had a good feeling, it looked fishy!!

3rd cast right into the boil and a couple of turns the rod arched over, the fish instantly took line and I knew it was a bass. I got it under control and past the rod to Fin, he played the fish well and was beaming when a decent bass broke surface alongside the kayak, it was the perfect end to the holiday.

We had a small pollack next chuck and bumped a fish the one after, then it went dead..

All was revealed when with a snort a huge male seal head came out if the water about 30 yards away, it was great for fin to have a good close up view, but I was a bit gutted cause I think a few fish were about until his arrival..

We bobbed about for a bit in the sun and had a yap in peace ( without the girls lol)...

I can't wait to get back out here next year for more of the same, I'm toying with the idea of an autumn trip for some big bass...

That's a cracking fish new kid. The young lad looks made up I spent a week in cornwall 3 weeks ago and the amount of kayaks in the sea was quite impressive. It's seems that the sport of kayaking is really taking off. I would love to give it a go myself maybe next summer I will buy 1. Have you got the long type of kayak or the short type.
