Rees Bevan 3
I currently have a 6 month old lurcher (shown in picture). He's great to recall and I've taught him the 2 commands I think I'll need which is sit and stay. I was just wondering at what age should I take him out and show him with other working dogs, I've been told 9 months is good to start taking them out and 12 months to start running him. Also post a picture of your dog or pup. Quote Link to post

Rees Bevan 3
I'm not sure exactly, but both his parents are good working dogs so if I put in the time he should turn out a good dog hopefully. I was lucky enough to have him for nothing from my uncle, thanks for the compliments 3 Quote Link to post

connerdaboss 20
Everyone says different things but tbh, I'd say it's whenever you think he's ready. Mentally and physically atb Quote Link to post
Tomhill131 25
Mines 11 months now taking him out for his first go on the lamp tonight! Quote Link to post
Poacherspocket 189
Everyone says different things but tbh, I'd say it's whenever you think he's ready. Mentally and physically atbVery true. I had a dog at 6 months I occasionally let him come out with me and mouth rabbits just to get a feel for the job and it did him a world of good. On the other hand I have a bitch that I never took out she was too prey driven and taking her out and not letting her run would do nothing but stress her out. As for letting them have a run make sure there fit, the rabbits are easy and youve put the time in which im sure you have. There no given answer you just need to stack the odds in your favour. Ads 39
Looks similar to mine and my mates from same litter. Same age, both parents workers. Saluki, bull, greyhound mine, whereabouts you get it from mate? Quote Link to post
stabba 10,745
Some are ready physically but not mentally. Same as some mentally ready but not physically. The trick is to try and enter them when the two things seem to mesh . 1 Quote Link to post
Rees Bevan 3
I got it from my uncle in the south Wales area, Merthyr specifically. He sold 4 pups to a bloke for cheap though so we assumed he was going to re-sell them, not sure whereabouts he came from though Quote Link to post
Rees Bevan 3
Thanks for all the replies, he's came out of his shell a lot but I'm not sure if he's ready for it mentally. He's a very physically fit and fast dog because I take him out for long walks and bike rides. Thanks for the advice as I'm relatively new to the hunting scene. Quote Link to post
