bill88 6
I use a cheap braided lead from the cash and carry 70p,i just take the steel ring off the end.I have got a proper leather lead and collar with the slip mech,i bought it at the Waterloo a few years back, and it wasn't cheap. As soon as the dog pulls though, its a bitch to trigger, thats why i stick to the plain slip. Guest mush
I use a cheap flat braided nylon "tie down". I tie a handle at one end and put it through just like Frank's photo. Any flat dog lead will do with the clip removed. why take the clip off bit pointless as then you dont have anything to hang onto except a straight bit of lead . Quote Link to post
hunter1 63
I use a leather lead with clip cut off. I have propper quick release lead cost £15 waste of time. Quote Link to post
cúagusgiorraí 57
Most dog leads have a handle on one end and a clip at the other. Cut the clip off and put the lead through the ring on the collar and hold the lead, with your wrist through the lead handle. This is basic stuff. Quote Link to post
Bush Rummager 4,706
forget all that fancy stuff mate... get yer sen down to the b&q, 20mm nylon flat webbing, i think they call it, 40 odd pence a metre, you need 2mtrs per slip lead, sew a loop in one end, just big enough to fit your hand through (so it can hang off your hand, say whilst holding lamp in otherhand when dogs runnin) seal the other end with a lighter, SORTED !!! for less than a quid.... get half a dozen made, if you lose one you wont lose any sleep over it, P.S, the lass on the till will never check how many metres you have there.. cúagusgiorraí 57
Thats the same material I use, I get it as a 'ratchet tie down' in the 2euro shop. I tie a handle instead. Sewing would be more permanent. Quote Link to post
finny 0
STRONG STUFF DOES GOOD SLIPS ,FOUR FOR A TENNER , PROPER HANDLE AT ONE END AND A SMALLER LOOP FOR TWO FINGERS AT THE OTHER . SIMPLE AS. Quote Link to post
B moocher 0
i have used both rope and slip with mech . I find the rope quicker and easier . Others say that there dogs pull set of mech if thats the case why not take the small string off the clip that releases the mech as i have done then all you need do is to release it with your finger only down side is potching with the dam thing in the dark Quote Link to post
scotty3968 0
ive used allsorts,,but i use these now i make them myself out of strong lightweight braid, they look flimzy but they are verry strong,,i sell them to my mates and local lads,,as they work well and are cheap, just take a bit of time to stitch, but it keeps  me busy at work, some lovely colours ha scotty Edited October 16, 2007 by scotty3968 Quote Link to post
cúagusgiorraí 57
Good man, nice fotos they help out. Exactly like what I use. I used to put a finger loop as well. I dont bother any more. I have lost a few in the field. Easy to replace and make. Quote Link to post
scotty3968 0
i like the finger loop just for that added safety,i lamp with 2 dogs so i use a double one with different colours so i know what dog is on what finger ha happy huntin scotty Quote Link to post
cúagusgiorraí 57
Same as meself . I rap the lead around the hand a few times. I find this holds the pulling dog better then a couple fingers. Open fist to release the dog. Quote Link to post
alimac 882
i bought this thought it was the worst thing ever just get a normal lead cut off the handle best slip going....this is that crap slip i bought caost me 40 euro nearly waste of money.. what did you find wrong with them, apart from the hand loop being a little to big, i taped up the top of the handle which brings my thumb down to the release bar... never had a pop or false slip, i found them spot on....... used to run the dogs with collar on but its asking for trouble if your running roug ground Quote Link to post
brother fox 1
Got a few of those bellman and flint green webbing style slip leads. Great for big strong dogs but would like one about 2 foot longer for walking through steep heavily wooded areas. Quote Link to post
