Land of hope and glory would be a good un imo.

Jurusalem , would be a good one

"Pretty Vacant" by the Pistols.......imagine that before a World Cup game

Jerusalem.... That's in the middle east FFS......

Not according to William Blake it wasn't. :tongue2: LOL. The poem is about England, Jerusalem being a metaphor for heaven.

I know that all to well and, it's a 'nice' poem but each and every time I hear the name Jerusalem in it, it removes me from 'my England' and simply smacks of a war torn shithole, that has killed as many people as the great wars and never looks worth a drop of blood being spilled for it...! Nah, heaven for me it ain't..!!!!

It also seems like we are being force fed it, like someone wants to sway a vote and that too sticks in my crop!

God Save The King/Queen probably WAS the English National Anthem in the 1700's. It certainly was NOT supported by the Scots when it included the verse;

Lord, grant that Marshal Wade

May by thy mighty aid

Victory bring

May he sedition hush

And like a torrent rush

Rebellious Scots to crush

God Save The King.

A Verse no longer recognised or sung.
