New Scope

Just bought a new scope an I know you want it as close to the barrel as possible, is this close enough (10mm) or should I get shorter mounts??

If its on a hmr youll benifit most from being as close as possible mate.

You should try to get that gap to less than 5mm, almost touching is best, but at least you can now take the mount

your using in the photo to compare to others to get the right 'lowness', measure the gap in the photo and work from that.

Sportsmatch are spot on for rimfires with dovetails, also the 'reach forward' type format gives you a much better

chance of getting the eye relief correct.

When you rest your head on the cheek peice is your eye in line with the scope or do ou need to raise your head slightly to accomodate?

 

If you do not need to raise your head then these mounts should be perfectly fine.

Thanks for the advice lads, will exchange my mounts tomorrow and hopefully the weather will clear up so I can go and play.

Yea will do, hoping to get out on Sunday, and just got a new perm on a golf course so hopefully a lot more shooting for me

It doesn't matter what rifle or calibre or intended use, scope should always be as sensibly close to the barrel as possible.

Obviously consideration must be given to practicalities and individual gun fit, that's what sensibly means above.

Exchanged the large for the medium mounts and now they are too short so, can I pack the mounts out a little bits bad if so with what or just go back to the large mounts?

Go back to the large mounts mate, I run mine with sports match and they're the same distance off the barrel mate...the game kings got a big lense on the front mate.

So were the original mounts too uncomfortable to use did you need to lift your head to view the scope or not?
