You should try to get that gap to less than 5mm, almost touching is best, but at least you can now take the mount

your using in the photo to compare to others to get the right 'lowness', measure the gap in the photo and work from that.

Sportsmatch are spot on for rimfires with dovetails, also the 'reach forward' type format gives you a much better

chance of getting the eye relief correct.

It doesn't matter what rifle or calibre or intended use, scope should always be as sensibly close to the barrel as possible.

Obviously consideration must be given to practicalities and individual gun fit, that's what sensibly means above.

Thought that would be the case, a little frustrating as the gun shop won't be open now or tomorrow so won't be able to play this weekend.

So were the original mounts too uncomfortable to use did you need to lift your head to view the scope or not?
