neil cooney 10,416
Everyone agrees on different methods and levels of exercise to get a dog fit enough for a day or nights work but IMO the first thing to do before starting is to ensure the dog is wormed and de-flead. Also the dogs diet is as important as the level of exercise it gets. Anyone can stick a dog on a lead and set of but it's no accident that usually the man with constantly good dogs also knows every aspect of conditioning. 3 Quote Link to post

inan 841
I like to book my dogs into a spar a few weeks before the season starts ..they get a manicure ... An all over massage ... Hot stone treatment the full works ... I find this relaxes the dogs and gets them into the right frame of mind for a days work once a month which I think is plenty for any dog ......... I think the pink nail varnish you had onTegan when we did that job was a bit over the top, but," different strokes". 1 Quote Link to post
low plains drifter 10,912
Road walking is the key to a well conditioned dog it's the only real way to strengthen muscles tendons and ligaments which provide the skeletal support, or you could just run the dog and pay the vet bills Quote Link to post
