will.f11 24
Walk it as much as you possibly can then when they start looking the part I run mine behind the van 10 mph building up to 7 mile a run with 15-20 mph bursts every mile or so.. I'm lucky I live on the moors so dogs can run on the grass as you will find that they will go through their pads if you run me too much on the road then they ain't good for f**k all.. Country lanes with good verges would do it if you can persuade em to run on the grass Quote Link to post

robin hood 109
only way to get them fit is too run them, steady build up of short too long runs will get them fit, dont understand why anyone walks them 10 miles, swimming is a another good way to get them fit but running fit is different too looking fit, only time id walk them is bringing them back from injury Quote Link to post

thefensarefarbutistillgo 2,482
No need for trotting them 10 miles you will take to much out of them on the roads, start off trotting them along side the car or bike 2 miles 3 times a week with free running in fields on the days inbetween for 2 weeks, then do 3 mile trotting 3 times a week for 2 weeks, then 4 mile 3 times a week for 2 weeks all with free running on days inbetween, that should build up a good bit of base fitness and tone them up a bit ready for when they start working properly, then when there working adjust the road work to the amount of work there getting and how strenuous the work is, once there fit and getting worked regular they won't need much road work at all just more days rest 2 Quote Link to post

socks 32,253
I like to book my dogs into a spar a few weeks before the season starts ..they get a manicure ... An all over massage ... Hot stone treatment the full works ... I find this relaxes the dogs and gets them into the right frame of mind for a days work once a month which I think is plenty for any dog .........
