Rip Hazel

Recommended Posts

I've just had to bury my five month old lurcher pup... Gutted isn't the word. Hazel had a fit at 4.30pm this afternoon and never recovered.

When I got to the vets fifteen minutes after the fit she seemed a little brighter, but she quickly became unconscious and only regained consciousness once in over and hour and a half.

The fit wasn't a typical epileptic fit and the full blood test she had done didn't show any problems. The likely diagnosis was an underlying neurological issue. This seemed likely from the start as she had been a strange pup, far slower to learn than you would expect. Still, I put this down to puppyhood and was looking forward to the future. It appears that there was something not quite wired up right from the start. Still... knowing that doesn't make things any easier when you're making the decision to have a healthy pup put to sleep, even if that was the recommended course of action from the vet.

Bad craic that mate. I know it's early but i'd be contacting the breeder just to let him know so he can give a heads up to all the owners of said litter mates. Unless it was home bred then that job would fall to you. Sorry about the pup mate.

Thanks for the mind comments guys. It's just bad luck I suppose, but it's worse that it's happened to a pup so young. We all make plans when we get a new pup in and have high hopes, but this time it wasn't to be.
