shropshire dan 467
I personally dont like the cheaper nikko scopes. Im a very big fan of hawke. For the money they are unbeatable imo Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
Yeh I got a Nikko gameking 4-16x50 on my hmr...dont need anything else. Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
You can pick them up cheaper on eBay where I got mine, had a gold crown on my .22lr which was old as it came with it and it took a huge knock but still worked fine...replaced it with a hawke panorama 6 weeks ago. Apparently the nikko mountmasters have had problems but I've not had any and thought they're great for rimmies..only gripe being as soon as sun goes down it gets dark in that tube quite quick. For rimfire or centre fire? Edited July 29, 2014 by celticrusader Quote Link to post
doie1 22
i was looking at the 6-24x50 Gameking or the 4-16x50 with IR, maybe thatwould helpafter the sun goes down? Quote Link to post
doie1 22
Dan what is it you dont like about them, is it anything mechanically and reliability wise or just looks? Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
Yep...helped me put six in a thumbnail at the 100m range, would luv higher magnification but you gotta give up the lower mag aswell which is a shame. Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
I'm impressed with mine, does what it says on the tin and should be ok on some of the 22 cf's but I'd put something else on if I was gunna put a scope on something with a bit of shock factor, I dont know what they're like with cf's someone else might be able to confirm or deny that for you. doie1 22
im looking to put it on my 17 hmr, i cant make my mind up weather to go for the 6-24x50 or spend a little more money and get the 4-16x50 with which has the illuminated reticle but lose out on the magnification. Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
Dont think I have the it on mine..if do I havnt used it lol, the 4-16 will do well mate but if something gets in close you'll have trouble shooting up close with a 6x as apposed to a 4x at the minimum...that said extra mag will really help on the range. The rest is up to you mate but mine runs well on my hmr. Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
I'll upload a PIC for you when I get home just to show you I'm not pulling your leg mate. Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
Dan what is it you dont like about them, is it anything mechanically and reliability wise or just looks? I just think the hawke scopes are better value for money and lifetime no fuss guarantee. Ive had a couple of budget nikkos I think were the mountmaster range and found the hawke sport HD to be far superior. I use a mk1 Hawke eclipse on my .22lr has been zeroed once since put on and never lost zero its also approx 10years old and I would be happy using it on CF rifles. Quote Link to post

I wouldn't worry to much about mag or ir. I personally only uae ir for ratting in and out of barns and never need higher than 10x mag on the hmr. Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
Think I paid £60 for mine and I have an ir on my hawke panorama but havnt used it yet. Tbh I dont think I've needed one so far and I personally dont see the extra need for it for me, I do find I use high magnification when long range rabbiting but I also run a 20 inch plus retractable bipod on my hmr from where I sit in a stress free position on my ass which gives good ground clearance over open distances. celticrusader 78
All of the above said mate my hmr is set for long range rabbiting without sacrificing upclose shooting, my 22lr is set up for repetitive short range rabbiting and i have a red dot on it for ratting grom the hips in the wood or incase something pops out a couple of feet in front of me. both compliment each other when I need.
