Regulators.

Recommended Posts

Hi,I own a very nice accurate Air Arms S400 Classic .177 cal,It is a real tack driver shoot's at 11.6 Ft-Lbs,the sweet spot is from around 120 to 165 Bar so about 35 or so good full power shots before it starts to drop off.

I have been looking at regulators and was wondering if it would be of any real benefit fitting one, read a little about regulators so before i decide, has anyone here fitted one and what where your results.I don't really want to waste nearly 80 notes if its not worth fitting one.

Thanks in advance,

Paul.

I would not bother you gun is shooting fine less to go wrong with no regulator .if you fit a regulator you have to drill a hole in the air cylinder ( permanent) .you will have to adjust the power settings to get them right (time and money with pellets )your gun will shoot differently using a constant supply of lower pressure air instead of a quick blast of higher pressure air (if you like your gun it will be changed ).I would get a regulated gun like a hw 100 and keep your gun as it is .With the time ,effort (not to mention you may not like the results) you are half or a third of the way to getting a hw 100 . Regulators are not that great if they were air arms would be fitting them .You will get more shots but an air arms is not hard to fill .I have thought to shoot different weight pellets from say 200 bar to 160 bar shoot light pellets then from 160 bar to 130 bar medium weight pellets 130 bar to 110 bar light pellets again for example, so to keep the trajectory the same the power will change but not the sights .never bothered just fill my gun to 155 bar shot to 125 bar .

A tuned AA S400 with the full length classic air cylinder should produce 60 - 70 shots in .177 consuming approx 1 bar of air per shot from 180 - 100ish bar.

As long as you are not hindered by anti tamper, stripping and tuning yours is a very easy thing to do. Join the Air Arms Owners Club and go to the technical section for strip down and tuning guides. I am not a fan of fitting after market regs to the S400 if you are paying someone else to do the work. If you can do it yourself then you won't be out of pocket by so much when you come to sell the rifle.

How many shots do you feel that you need from an air rifle between fills.

Hi Guy's,Thanks for the replies your comments are appreciated, seems like my initial thoughts where correct.I think i will leave well alone to be honest, didn't like the thought of drilling out the A/T & drilling holes in the cylinder, after all it is a really accurate gun and shoots spot on,was just looking to improve shot count to around 80 consistent full power shots.

Owned a nice Hw a few years back & always regretted parting with it.so may try and sell/exchange my two pcp's at a later date and go for the Hw 100 or another multi shot gun.

You won't go far wrong with the HW Paul. another option could be a rapid or such like.

If you do go for another brand of pcp other than the two I have mentioned, then steer clear of the pink ones
