retreving problems!

Recommended Posts

Well my 14 month old lurcher was doing great, until friday nite she caught a rabbit on the lamp and instead of retreving it she decided to have a run round with it :censored: , and when i walked towards her she ran off, this only lasted a minuite or two but its a minuite or two too much, has anyone got any tips on how to stop her doing this, i though about giving her a tip when she retreives but she comes back looking for it without the catch! A mate thinks it could be because there was another dog their but sunday whilst out ferreting she was on her own and she tried to do it again

can someone help me please ?

only advice i could give u is going back to basics with a stuffed rabbit skin as i have taught mine this way and within a week he would retreive from any distance . I had my lurcher from 12 months old and had no experience now 14 months old and will catch rabbits at distance and retreive live back to hand every time without any commands

keep trying all though i would still use a stuffed skin as toys could signal to the dog that you just playing. Ruff the dog up with the dummy and whilst holding him throw it wait for him to pull you then release him and encourage him when he is returning i find kneeling down with your arms out gives him less room to go past you then leave him keep hold of it whilst you praise him then keep repeating it. Good luck mate

still having problems :censored: last week she retrived one when another dog was there, yesterday she was on her own and she wouldnt retrieve just ran around with it :wallbash:

Try turning your back on her and walking away calling her as you do, I'm no expert but it worked with my pup he retrieves well now, the odd time he will drop the bunnie about 6ft away from me and i have to collect it but i can live with that for now!!!!

My 15 month old kills them then just leaves them. I've tried calling, walking off, with and without dogs but for the last 3 months she just not retieved before that she did and did well. I've tried playing with her with skinned dummies she runs to them and sniffs then looks around see if anything about then trots off. She was really g'd up to day for some reason got 2 retrieves with the skinned dummy. Then she got bored so left it. Going to keep hyping her up then trying. I hope it works. Good luck with yours
