BigBrianBorou 35
what im saying lad is,doubling up is not proving your dogs work, either terrierwork or lurcher its not fair fight, dogs gets unnessacery damage(one dog pulling other dog getn ripped etc another eg two men against one in street fight is it fair no.cmon lads doubling up is a nono, there not fox dogs 1 Quote Link to post
weasellurcher 113
Im not a fox man and wont pretend to be but pre ban my old lurcher was a racy type and could catch the odd fox very easily but she wasnt so great at killing them we only killed two or three and we weren't looking for them we just came across them. It is great watching her run them though really enjoyed the few runs we had and id agree that a single handed dog is great to watch but surely doubling up dogs is a different sport and the enjoyment is watching them run as a team and working together? its just an opinion so make what you want of it but i think it is both good sport but different games. 1 Quote Link to post
trenchfoot 4,243
If your foxing for true pest control purposes, then who cares if you double up. Yes a fox dog should do the job single handed, but if you find two get the job done more effectively, on a regular basis, then crack on at get the job done! 1 Quote Link to post

Silversnake 1,099
quote name="All-terrain" post="3713661" timestamp="1407754105"] fair enough lad,all night then take two singled handed dogs, slip each one on own,if there good theyll last, wiping out an area in one nyt,not my style jmo lol you won't "wipe out"any area when foxes are concerned bri,i used to love it all, doubled, single, out with company or on my own, letting young dogs prove themselves singlehanded then watching them outshine the older dogs when running doubled up,just enjoy the memories me mate, as for macky i could see what he was saying, a good catching dog may not be a good killing dog but it's still a good catcher so bring it out and run it with a good killing dog jobs a good'n lol I have to agree single or double It's all good fun to me, a dog that is used to catch foxes single or double is a fox dog to me, I truly wish that ban gets lifted as I would love to hear more stories about these dogs, past, present and future. Great thread btw. Edited August 11, 2014 by Silversnake Quote Link to post

morton 5,368
When Charlie boy was still a legit part of the days activities and we were out and about trying to find the crafty blighter, the dogs were mainly hunted at liberty, thus a fox that jumped up took his chances, which he often did whilst making his escape,to be hunted anew at another opportune moment, thats what hunting was about. Now its single handed this and that bollox, how the owner and dog can get a REP.,often based on the flimsiest of foundation,a dog as to look smashed so as to look the part,id rather have a dog that had no need to get smashed and still despatched his fox, what a dinosaur i am.If you had one dog it needed the ability and character to kill its fox,if you had 2 or 3 mutts at hand they were all slipped, especially as like most at the time, the fox was just a small part of the dogs hunting lifestyle, the mutts energy needed saving for more taxing and rewarding gallops, who could sell or eat a dead fox.If pest control came into the equation a snare hunted 24hrs a day,7 days a week.
