Hi mate

The best thing to do is give them a quick ring. They won't mind and at least you will get some idea in your head. Personal circumstances can play a factor and so on. I am under South Wales Police and it took around 5 months for my grant. I have seen threads on here where people have had their grant back much sooner. It's a horrible waiting game, but it is well worth it when your licence does come through the post.

How long ago did you apply. Is there anything you have had to put down on your certificate that you think may be cause for concern?

I have only just put it in, so am expecting a wait, it took six months for my sgc so was just testing the water really. I have only applied for a .22lr and have a signed land form as well which should help, so fingers crossed nothing against me so to speak lol

You can still phone them. Tell them you are just enquiring as to a time scale and to see if they had much of a back log. Need to plan purchase of a rifle and the land owner has been asking you as well due to the rabbit problem

CelticCrusader: I would imagine we come under the same area. That would be great, handy to have. It might be the same person as I have.

Here in Lancashire my Firearms Department is superb. When I phone the office they are always most helpfull and pretty quick.

I see no justification in a force taking 5 or 6 months to process an application.

5 months for a grant in South Yorkshire.

It does seem daft how they take so long. After the FEO's been, he sends the info to head office to be processed and printed. It shouldn't take 4 months to do that. It's probably a combination of many factors: budget cuts, staff shortages, the odd bit of broken equipment, technical failures here and there, and general beaurocracy. Time must just add up, but it's the world we live in. It's definitely worth it when the certificate turns up on your doorstep though :D
