In my experience anything under 24" will struggle to catch hares on a regular basis, having said that i,v a 20 month old 3/4 whipp 1/4 beddy here, just short of 22" and she,s picked up 2 while out rabbiting, smaller dogs have the speed, even small whippets do, but they dont have the excess speed needed to get back on the hares arse after its turned to push it, it takes them too long and is punishing for a small dog, pound for pound the Hare must be the best running machine on earth & a good test of any dog on its own ground, regards, buster.

but do they not have the ability to turn tight with the hare and not lose any ground when turning with the hare as for any dog under 24tts to struggle with hare on a reguler basis is alot of nonsense imo

I wouldnt buy a dog under 24" if my main quarry was Hares, would you.

I never said a dog under 24" wouldnt take Hares, but to take Hares on a regular basis a dog under 24" would not be my choice.

I,v seen some odd looking dogs take Hares over the years, i remember bumping into a lad from South Elmsall, he was running the same ground as me at the time, Hooten Pagnell, he had a dog that i wouldnt have given a chance on a Hare, too heavy, clumsey looking thick set thing it was, i saw it pick one up and put it down to luck or a bad Hare, then it picked up another and another, saw him a few times and every time i saw him he had an Hare or two tucked away in his jacket, handsome is as handsome does, buster.
