BGD 6,436
American Staffs are the show pony version of the APBT, bred for nothing but the show ring for 100s of years. Why would you want to use one to breed a working dog when the Real McCoy is available? 3 Quote Link to post

BGD 6,436
Fair enough. I'm sure someone has, people will use anything with "bull" in the name to churn out bull x's but like you say I doubt any of them made the grade and if they did it would of been in spite of their genetics not because of them That is a really nice looking bitch though, built like a dog! 1 Quote Link to post

Hareydave 1,214
country full clowns that had them just interested in your expertise in amstaffs Quote Link to post
BGD 6,436
I know the Russians like to use them as attack dogs and roll them into mastiffs etc, and that they're riddled with hip and elbow dysplasia and tear their ACLs like they were made of paper. That's about as far as my expertise goes, I like athletic, capable, working dogs not shit that's been bred by fat american ladies to parade round the show ring. Using an AmStaff to breed lurchers would be like using a show bred Wheaton. Utterly pointless when the real deal working strain of the breed is still around, afterall that's all an AmStaff is, the show strain of the APBT with a name change to distance it from it's un-pc past. 3 1 Quote Link to post

bird 9,969
American Staffs are the show pony version of the APBT, bred for nothing but the show ring for 100s of years. Why would you want to use one to breed a working dog when the Real McCoy is available? even though they were the same breed to start with, the apbt lines are or should be working dogs, the a/staff show dog and you prob see more with cropped ears , than apbt. as its bred for what it can do more than what it looks like. And looking at old pics of apbt's a lot weren't over big dogs that were top of there game, and that's what there supposed to be tough game dogs Quote Link to post
Hareydave 1,214
I would say there been a bit boxer type dog added in to there make up Quote Link to post
neil cooney 10,416
Definitely no boxer in there. The first breed recognized by the U.K.C. was the APBT, in fact it was set up to register the APBT. But down through the years American dog men called them everything from Bulldogs, Pitbulls, staffs and am staffs. Joe Corvino used to advertise his as American Staffordshires and many of todays Bulldogs have his blood in them. But as has been said todays American Staffordshire Bull Terrier is the show bred variety and is definitely a big NO to breed lurchers from. You might be better of using a boxer, LOL. 1 Quote Link to post
