walshie 2,804
We're going to America later this year and i was thinking of stocking up on some shooting stuff if it's cheap enough. Just things like scopes, mags, etc. I know they can be funny about you importing scopes over a certain magnification, but where can I find a list of what you can and what you can't bring back? I 'd rather not get anything than have a load of aggro at Heathrow. Thanks.

Rake aboot 4,936
Cabalas website and maybe the Gander Mountain and Walmart sites might have some info bud. I went over and came back with nothing. German Glass is just as expensive and a lot of there gear is cheap because it`s cheap!! Guns are cheap as chips, but the hassle involved is mind numbing.

SportingShooter 0
Depending on whether there's one nearby where you're going, Bass Pro are massive outfitters too
walshie 2,804
I saw them when i was on the East Coast. There's one fairly near where we're going this time.
irishnut 297
I just brought home 3-9x40 scope and 3 bx mags for my 10/22. Got some realtree. Maximum spend is £390 before you have to pay import if they check you. Lad I know was stopped with 8 pairs of Nike runners. Had to provide receipts and pay duty on the lot. Around $900 worth
Rake aboot 4,936
I know a lad that bought a new Yamaha WRF 250,, ran it about offroad, drained the fluids, threw the tyres away , packaged on a pallet and put it in the hold on the way home. Told them it was secondhand (dirty) and hey presto, saved a fortune.

ChrisJones 7,975
Depending on whether there's one nearby where you're going, Bass Pro are massive outfitters too Sportsman's Warehouse too. Look for local businesses as well. Some of them carry some pretty good discounts. Depending on which state you're visiting check the supermarkets and sporting goods stores. Wal-Mart and Big5 Sporting Goods. This end of the country you can pick AR15's in Wal-Mart. Also, depending on what you want to take with you, have you considered mailing it home? UPS and Fedex have there own shops all over the place. Box em and ship em. It'll probably be cheaper than your excess baggage fee.
walshie 2,804
All good ideas chaps, BUT...where can i find a list of things I can and can't bring back or send back? Fortunately my sister in law lives there so she might be able to buy stuff a non-yank couldn't.
ChrisJones 7,975
Stuff you can't send would probably be through mail carrier. Stuff you can't carry on a plane would be the airline or HM Customs
ChrisJones 7,975
Might pay to ask the shop for a lesser value receipt so you don't get hit for tax on the way back through. If he goes into one of the bigger stores they won't do that. Smaller ones may but unlikely. Everything is electronic.
