TimS 49
Hi Chaps, Not been on for a while as I was short on shooting perms, but picked up a new one yesterday! Its a sheep farm nearby that I have seen hundreds of Corvids on but never been able to catch the farmer. Anyway, popped by on the off chance yesterday and explained who I was. His response - shoot anything you like, but not the sheep! Happy Days. Went out at first light this morning to walk the boundary and get a feel for the opportunity. Loads of sheep. No bloody crows. Too early. Weather was perfect though - see pic below. Not a breath of wind. Did find lots of abandoned Rabbit warrens and some sign of Rabbit activity by way of fresh runs through the hedgeline, but no droppings. Strange. Not sure whats going on there. Will have to explore another time of day when they are active. So after a long walk and explore I decided to make my way back. Sheep were hungry and so were the Corvids, but they were all sat in a nearby treeline and out of range. On the walk back and nearing the farm a herd of sheep were waiting by a fence for their brekkie and lo and behold - Mr Rook. Head above the long grass. Range - 65yds, Too far. I creep in the shadows. 60. 55. 50. That'll do. Stand, 1.5mils holdover. Steady. Take the shot. One in the bag! I make my way to the gate and bugger me, I spook a Rabbit behind the gate post. Didnt see him. Still - good to know where he hangs out! Waited by the gate for 20mins to see if he would pop back but alas no. Climb over gate and make my way towards the farm. Whats that by the sheep feeder over yonder? Its Mr Door Mr Jack Door. 80yds away. I drop to my belly and start crawling. 70, 60, That'll do! Pop the bipod legs quietly and get settled. He's facing away from me and hasnt seen me. Perfect. Back of the head/spine shot it is. Breathe in. Breathe out halfway. Squeeze the trigger. Mr JSB, meet Mr Door. It was a rapid hello and goodbye as Mr JSB passed through the back of his head. First day out. Quiet morning. Two in the bag and a new permission and the Mrs is on holiday with the Mother in law. Its gonna be a lovely weekend! Tim 2 Quote Link to post

celticrusader 78
Nice going mate, try evenings for rabbits maybe 5-10pm this time of year..it gets better towards 9ish, they always return to where you spook them ...just play the waiting game for an hour or two...patience is the game. Good luck and get some for the pot mate. 1 Quote Link to post
TimS 49
Thanks guys. I prefer evenings too and this I find is the best time for Wabbits and lazy Woodies and Corvids. It was a beautiful morning this morning and I was obviously excited so could wait to go over and recce the perm. Didnt expect to get anything so two Corvids was a little taster. After about 5pm the place is full of them. Gonna go down around 7pm on Friday and report back. Tim Quote Link to post

RichardD 1
Also waiting for Barley (and wheat and rape) to be cut. My perm's got plenty of warrens, albeit nearly all hidden by summer crops. I guess we're all waiting for the old combine to get out the barn! 1 Quote Link to post
