Fighting Ferrets

I got a new kit on Friday and I have them all in together in the one hutch. There's four of them and the hutch is more than big enough for them all with plenty of tunnels and toys for them in the court part. They get taken into the garage for a good few hours every day to play where I have loads of stuff for them to exercise/ play with - so lack of exercise cant be a factor. I also play with them at least twice daily. Now one of the older ferrets keeps attacking the kit who is 11 weeks old. The other two are fine with her. Its not just occasionally that she's being attacked - its every time they come into contact with each other She keeps spraying - which I can live with but it just goes to show how frightened she is Ive tried staying next to the hutch and spraying the older ferret with water then moving her to try and teach her that she isnt to be attacked but Im getting nowhere fast? Any tips/ ideas will be very much appreciated. Ive included some pics of their hutch and play area to give an idea of their facilities.

Of topic but thats a excellent set up for the ferrets ! they are lucky buggers .

so is it being attacked in the cage?, are they sleeping together, or is the kitt being pushed out of the sleeping quarters

i introduced a young kitt(hob) into my court of 8 ferts (all realated) and just left them to it, although my court is larger and has more than one sleeping area, they all get on fine

In the cage, the garage, the sleeping quarters - just about everywhere they are in the same vacinity. They have a bed in the actual hutch and a small bed (Which I call the out house ) in the court area which is big enough for two ferrets. Oh, they also have a hammock attatched to the first floor of the hutch area. So really, theres plenty of spaces to sleep for them all. Im having to separate them at the minute as the kit is terrified.

Im putting two of them together in the garage at a time so they can play together and she is fine when she isnt with the kit. The other two are great with her and she is fine with them. Its just the one jill Im having bother with.

ive got the same problem myself i had a new jill in and no way will they let her alone thats in the cage or on the floor i now what you are goin through its goin to take awhile

Some ferret's take a while to get used to each other.. some other's never do.. keep the young one away from the adult for now till it can defend it's self properly otherwise you could end up with a dead ferret..

It's got nothing to do with your set up some ferret's are just a pain in the arse when it comes to adding new stuff..

Would definatly keep the new one seperate for a while, just untill it has matured. then try adding them together again. Might just need time to sort a pecking order out. Could try keeping the young one together with a more settled older ferret that doesnt try to kill it, this way it may learn that not every ferret will want to try and beat it up!

Very frustrating! My 4 yr old jill has been attacking her daughter since the day she came back from the vets after being spayed.

That was in May and mother still attacks her.Are now seperated bt this is a pain and makes using the two in the same warren a no no.

I'm going to keep trying but am running out of patience!

I thought maybe the older jill was showing she was dominant and maybe just biting the young jill on the neck then i would have been tempted to spray Bitter apple on the youngsters neck and see if that stop the biting . But then she would smell diffent and it might make the old jill worse .As has been said before your better seperating them till the young bitch is mature enough to look after herself

Its really strange? The other two appear to be trying to help her Every time the jill goes near her they get in the way and grab her by the neck? She is about the same size as the rest of them considering she is only 11 weeks old but the big bully is undeterred? Its a nightmare really! I just wish the young jill would chin her and be done with it. I'm just going to have to introduce them very slowly and hope for the best Fingers crossed eh.

Same Fecking boat here ive two sister albino jills one had a litter last year and i got left with a white jill and the mother's sister tries to kill it every chance she gets .

i've had the same problem with my two jills... one is two years old and the other is 16 weeks

i got them both from a rescue centre but when i got them home in there cage i built the old jill batterd the young jill the young jill was always sraying too and i couldent go near it has she was constantly defending herself.. i thought it would end and the older one would stop but day and night she used to bite the young one...

in the end i made another cage and split them both up, the young one is brill now and its free and happy....

mybe get another cage and part the young one with another one of your ferrets thats ok with it ????

hi i would remove the aggressive one from the rest until the kit has matured and can hold her own then put her back in as she will have been away for a while she will they will reassess her place in the pecking order.
