twilight mission

For those hard dog men out there that are worried...the rabbit in the picture is dead...really.

The rabbit was really fat, I have never seen so much fat under the skin. Where it comes from most rabbits are fat, they have ideal pasture and shelter, they are never hunted and seldom poached.

As for the wildness...the rabbit comes from a population that also has other colours, a recreational area that has wild rabbits but people also release unwanted pets there...the pet ones don't live very long it seems but they do breed. The place borders the dunes where there is a hugh population of proper grey wild ones.

Lucky, I am not in Spain, I am 3 kms from the coast in The Netherlands.

who cares if it was alive besides as if anyone would put an alive rabbit in a plastic bag anyway and im the same lennard have a few cross breds under the pub near mine and they get pretty big but I'v noticed ill occationaly find some big grey ones a km or more away from the pub and to do that the bunnies have to cross two main roads also iv heread off old timers that when theres a massive population of rabbits befor multicolours start to show up in caught black ones before in really well populated areas no one would think to look

Sorry to hark back to the rabbit again...but; surely there are a fair few of us who've caught over-sized or under-sized or oddly coloured ones, so we can hardly comment that a rabbit's not genuine just because of the colour. I even caught a (presumably) pet one once with mottled fur and large white patches. It still ran bloody fast though!

In Spain people cross them with greyhounds for coursing and racing to get best of speed and stamina.

A good galgo is slower than a racing grey but keeps going longer. A pure galgo is more bony, flatter muscled, longer feet, a longer tail, snakier head and hip bone as high or higher than shoulder bone...bear some resemblance to the saluki of North Africa.

A well bred one has stamina similar to a good saluki. The good ones rank among salukis for jack rabbits in the US.

I don't think there are well bred ones in the UK...prolly there are only rescue dogs, who have traumas or handicappes...

And Lucky; I'd have expected better of you mate

Ditch may i ask what you are implying by this comment? If i am getting this right then you are saying that you wouldn't expect it from lucky but would expect it from the likes of me and Mrs Gaspode? ''Cardboard boxes'' ay..? Well actually ditch i did observe the pictures not just pass comment after scanning through. I kept my comment light and humorous as to not cause a slagging match or any un intended offence. I was really just curious as to why it appeared to be alive.... I really feel that being compared to a ''cardboard box'' was uncalled for. Anyway back to my first point, what are you actually inferring by your comment that you wouldn't expect it from lucky? To me the underlying meaning to that is that you would expect it from me and anyone else in doubt. Well fair enough everyone is entitled to there own opinion ditch.....just so happens that all i was exercising was my own right to voicing my opinion.

 Witton? Get a life, mate! I addressed my comment specifically to Lucky in view of something else I'd recently commented to him. IF I'd wanted to make a direct comment to or about anyone else, I'd have made one. My generalised comment about the observationals of a cardboard box were heart felt and stand. If anyone examening those shots couldn't see that the rabbits was stone dead and stiff? I wouldn't like to go out with anyone of that level of observation.

Now, how about ye consider, in future, the remarks You pass on fora? If it offends ye own fragile sense of self so strongly that ye feel the need to start remonstrating and 'Bumping' (I've actually been out all afternoon and have only now found this thread again) then perhaps ye'd do best to ask yeself if ye about to use the wisest choice of words before you make " light hearted " disparaging remarks towards others.

Or is it a case of it's ok for you to hand it out ....?

Either way; Get over it. Live a bit more and ye'll find life's like this.

Ditch i bumped it because i was looking forward to your reply and didn't want the post to become ''lost'' and missed by you. And please, go out and scruff a live rabbit they do actually hold there legs like that and hunch up. We have always had rabbits, i'm not the type to be gentle when holding them i always scruff them and that is exactly how they tense up and hold there selves when held by the scruff. And they also seem to always close there eyes. Go and try it....At the end of the day the rabbit may be alive and maybe dead.....who knows only one person will ever know the truth and thats Lennard. Everyone has there own opinion about the matter, and i'm sorry if i have rattled your cage by voicing mine.....just like you rattled mine. Ditch please use your vast experience to examine and observe this picture........i haven't developed mine past the level of the ''cardboard box'' as of yet and intern struggle to realize the meaning.

May the good Lord bring prosperity to you both. You are both men of sharp vision and well written words.

I at least thought the rabbit was dead. It didn't breath or move when I took it from the dog and it didn't do so when I cut it to get the skin off. I found the closed eyes a bit weird too...but apart from being closed the eyes were normal, no mucous or anything...they were a bit deep in the head though. I put it in the plastic bag immediately as I had to be on the move, no field cleaning or stretching.
