Good Management's Result

Hi everyone.

 

Last week a good friend of mine and one of the hunters I respect the most managed to hunt the roe in the picture.

 

The story is long, so in order to avoid boring you all, I'll be as concise as I can.

 

The hunting ground is a remote area where few hunters go. It is very well guarded against poachers, and stalkers are allowed to search for their perfect roe with one permit as many days as they want; this meaning that they are very carefully chosen hunters who only use one permit for one roe.

 

My friend spends many hours searching for the best animals, the ones who are old enough to be shot and also have transmitted their genes. If he sees any abnormality in an animal, he informs the managers about the issue and the area where the animal has been seen and they try to eliminate it.

 

This roe deer had been on his mind for about three months and now it's hanging on his living room wall. I'm glad he's achieved his goal and, again, glad to have him as a hunting companion from whom I always learn.

 

In the end, at least as I see it, managing healthy animal populations is not only a matter of land owners, we all should be part of it.

 

As we say here in Spain, an image is worth more than a thousand words.

Thanks for the compliments, but they obviously should go to my friend.

 

He has a few of these bucks hanging on the walls, and I can tell you that whenever he is showing them to somebody, you can feel he is not showing off, he really is proud of the effort he has put into it.
