R.A.W 1,987
Pest controller Ricky Clark has trained his plummer Kimba to see off vermin in London. He explained: “The plummer terrier is by far the best rat-catching dog you can get. He missed a trick in order to line his/pockets in my opinion. Any terrier wil do the same job WHY is a plummer the best. One of the reason I don't waste money on a tabloid is because of that shite.................. You know somethin' R.A.W. I did always have you down as a Financial Times man. ............................ I only wish I had the money to buy it 1 Quote Link to post
R.A.W 1,987
It was all a great con by Plummer himself to create the myth that Plummers are the best ratting terriers, in my opinion he had plenty of ratting on his doorstep and being lazy by nature he made a name by filming his exploits, I keep Plummers and russells and there's no difference ratting, you get good and bad examples in every breed and as previously stated not all Plummers are good at ratting, mine are very driven by anything but I've seen some poor ones as with any terrier, WM Quote Link to post

stormyboy 1,352
Not the best example I've seen. 2 minutes in a small bedroom and never found the rat in a wicker basket. wouldn't be proud of that let alone post videos of it.....Hope it's not bred from.... 1 Quote Link to post
PFS 12
I'm a terrier man and a professional pest controller, There is nothing more I love than working my dogs on rats but in commercial & domestic environments you can't always expect the land or property owner to be okay with dogs running all over their property. You can have the best terrier in the country you but aren't going to gain 100% effective control. The public love the idea but it ain't guna happen Quote Link to post
Cleanspade 3,322
well i will have to disagree with most of the posts on here. ive seen and worked some very fine terriers. but ive yet to see a breed that can better a GOOD. ratting plummer.as far as i am concerned the plummer sets the benchmark for ratting. (please note the word in caps . 4 Quote Link to post
stormyboy 1,352
Agreed CS. But not the video star! Poor example IMO. A good dog of any type should find a rat in a small room pretty sharpish. I gave my old lurcher a pat on the head after watching that. 1 Quote Link to post

I gave my old lurcher a pat on the head after watching that. like i said stormy. a good example of the breed is hard to better. there are bucket loads of poor examples of all breeds working.. ive seen a few black terriers that have put in poor shifts below ground, but i still think they are the dog that sets the pace for working below ground all terriers should be able to deal with rats. but plummers must be bred to do the job better. and deal with them in style. otherwise they have no reason to exist 1 Quote Link to post

foresterj 1,096
Not a patch on those Ratting Sealyhams shown on that dvd on here......... as an aside I don't feel the use of the word "ferocious" in the article to be fair or accurate, are these journalists on bonus for using unnecessarily evocative language? paulk73 151
I have to agree with cleanspade on this 1. although all terriers should in theory be able to deal with rats, a decent plummer is hard to beat. it takes some beating on agility and nose. im not taking anything away from other terriers breeds for other types of terrier work. I just have not seen any other type of terrier as a breed come close to the plummer as a ratting dog. 1 Quote Link to post

paulk73 151
best of both worlds then ggib mate. Quote Link to post
