what a day.

For the last few weeks we were ferreting hard,being inundated with requests from landowners.Today my mate Falcon and I went for a dig with the terriers.I had checked out a hole that was in an area I was ferreting and it was fairly fresh.I collared up klank,lakie/russel/bull cross.He went in and settles after 20 or minutes,and we proceeded to dig.We went 5 feet and it was slow due to roots and stones aplenty.Just before we reached the dog I mentioned if anyone else found it very quiet in the ground,this dog is a worker and very determined.When we broke through he was dead as a doorknob,so was the quarry.I was sickened,anyway we pulled him out and retrieved the collar from him and put him to lie where he took his last breath.I decided to carry on and try another few holes for a bitch I had with me.Shes a patt bitch and extremely well bred.After trying a few more we came to one that showed signs of occupation,collar on the bitch and off she went at high speed.A few minutes and contact with the quarry was established,she was baying steady and we got a mark of 2 and a half feet on the jutebox.I started to dig when she left all know she was getting as much stick as she was giving out.a minute or two she appeared at the enterance,being young and her 2cd dig I hoped shed go back to what she was doing,under no circumstances would she return.So today 1 dog died and another jacked in.Some going eh.Now I'm left with no terrier for the season.Back ferreting me thinks.

i guess the saying " every dog has his day" can go both ways. i lost agood bitch to a mean ass sow (female coon)in the creek she was on it by here self . not a good thing by water they will drown you dog if given the chance. i would be a broken man without one myself
