Rimfireboy! 1,463
When I was a kid I sat shooting rats in the farmyard what seemed like most days with an old .177 webley. Must have shot many hundreds of them over the years with that gun. Quote Link to post
paulk73 151
I had 18 on friday, then another 27 last night. but you cant shoot em with .177 Quote Link to post
smecky 52
Go on then tell us what shop it was in the nw. Haha Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
Tbh honest you get injured animals with whatever weapon you use especially pidgeon shooting with the shotgun, to say that its no good because it doesnt rollover and expire peacefully with a rose on its chest cartoon style is just plain stupid but then this is the moronic thought from a lot of people who are out there. Yes we all aim to kill the vermin as quickly and professionally as we can but that's just not the reality of things...anyone who thinks otherwise is a lier or not willing to face the realities of there own actions. paulk73 151
I had 2 in 2 shots a couple of months ago that weren't clean kills and I wasnt happy bout it. my zero had crept off slightly when I was putting my nv kit on. my fault. I checked before I put the nv on, but didnt check after id done it. Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
We arnt perfect mate and human error does occur all we can do is try our best and be professional as possible, like i said when out on the pidgeons or crows its a common thing to have a winged bird. Quote Link to post
ghillies 209
im just imparting a bit of wisdom that was passed on to me on friday in one of the most respected air gun shops un the northwest. you CANNOT SHOOT RATS WITH A .177. So I went out sat night and did just that. cos I know I can !!!!! yu now know to take a pinch of salt at that shop lol.... ''these pellets are good.## wait for it..........''try um'' lmao tenner down the shitta! i've used 22 and 177 on rats, tbh i found 22 very lacking for anything bar sitting duck head shots (its the caliber your most conversant with untill you go fac, even then set the power right to the pellet and one of the calibers will far out perform a poorly tuned other caliber, that doesnt include shooter error or skill). paulk73 151
had another 5 last night with 100kt .177 Quote Link to post
ghillies 209
spose its time to bring up the bod shot issue... the .22 standard issue ''cracking bod shot but it ran off!!'' gues what? it missed, the rat lifted, dodged the pellet and all with uh acted out stamp on the floor 'wack' noise and even follows up with by bowling over and screeming its go nads off... du real noise go thrupppp! then if it runs off you know it didnt hit the heart area or spinal wodgey columb. (the hearts in a weird place btw..lower down and nearer the spinal 'wodge' if you know what i mean. eather way, not know a rat jump a 177 lol.(not at the 10 yard stuff any way lol) Quote Link to post
paulk73 151
tbf I really dont take that many heart/lung shots while using either cal. I took 1 a couple months ago with .177. rat sat on the wall that surrounds a water tank. the rats head was round the corner of the tank so I couldn't see it. I had a nice safe back stop with the wall of the cattle shed, I took the shot. the rat sort of contracted a little like it was getting ready to jump, then just stayed there stone dead.
