My HW 100 kt .177 is utterly lethal to rats and "all" other vermin as a matter of fact.

I always shoot head shots whatever calibre i use and i find .177 the best calibre of all by a "country mile"

One of the best shots I've ever seen on a rat was with .177 while it was going over the top of a window frame. Was out with the farmer and his son. I was sat with the farmer's son letting him use the night vision to check for rats and as soon as I saw the rat over the window frame I popped the torch on my light on and lit up this rat. Over my head the farmer pulled the trigger and shot it clean dead! Considering he reacted in near zero time....stunning! He was resting up over the egg belt. I can only assume he knew the rats would be going over there and was just waiting and aiming. But what it felt like for me, the light beam itself made a bang sound and killed the rat. The reaction was that quick. For me, one of the best ratting shots I've seen....regardless of what calibre it was with....was from a .177

What was there reasoning for not using .177? I've used both .22 and .177 on rats and never had a problem with either.

I always use .177. I had a couple of runners a few months ago because my zero had crept off. I done the double with my 100 kt .177.. 2 rats sat 1 in front of the other and shot both with the 1 pellet. lol.

the reasoning was, that he once shot a squirrel with a .177. it fell to the ground and was still alive. he said he had to shoot it 8 more times at pbr before it expired. full of $hit springs to mind. and all this comes from sombody thats supposed to be in the know.

It just means he's a crap shot. I know how he feels haha.

Pop a clean pellet, whether .177 .25, or anything inbetween, and it'll do the job.
