Here's me as a pup..........when I could drive

Thats quality Al.

Is the MK1 Escort picture one of the old RS 2000's? it would be worth a mint now mate. I'm not being Biased but the Ecort looks heaps better than the Vauxhall in the other picture , is it a Viva or Victor?

Cheers

Jasp, the escort is a genuine ex works Mexico that was loaned to Jill Fortesque Racing from Ford (anyone thinks this is bull shit, check out the book "Works Escorts"). I bought it as a rolling shell, then bought an ex works 2.0 litre pinto lump, atlas axle, quaife box........the whole nine yards :icon_eek: , competed mainly on tarmac in Southern Ireland with some success.

The "Vauxhall" is a Talbot Avenger 1600cc based on the old Avenger Tiger, stronger and better braking than the escorts in standard form, so less work to "sort", I used this for Welsh Championship road rallies and this shot is of us in the 1979 West Cork just before we "landed" on top of a wall   :drink:

Ooops sorry mate. it was a insult to call it a Vauxhall viva . Them Mexico's were a bit special to say the least! I would say you remember the RS 1800 MK2? I used to have dreams owning one of them when I was a lad, I nearly got hold of a 1970 RS2000 before I brought the Capri but someone pipped me to the post.

I was a RS freak and still love them. I had 3 Escort RS TURBO's starting from a 87 D plate and cried when I sold my last 91 Model, I advertised it and tryed to put the perspective buyer off buying it but needs must and it had to go , I don't mind saying it but I was heart broken for weeks....

Well.....my first car was a Nova....Oh Yeah!! 1.0 litre and only four gears, and it also had a choke that used to be very temperamental. :wallbash:

When i first picked the car up from the showroom i was very nervous, and, stupidly picked it up at peak rush hour. I started the Nova and pulled out into the three lane carriageway then promptly stalled it! Then flooded the engine whilst feverishly trying to start it again. Boy did i feel like a total fool! I had that little car for a couple of years and it took me all over the UK, from wales to scotland and would run forever on twenty quid! The car was totally abused and the lurcher practically lived in it!! It stank! As anyone who has travelled with me in a car will testify i am a bad driver, and i managed to have 2 bad crashes in the first 2 month of driving :icon_eek::icon_eek: Luckily nobody was hurt and the car was repairable.

That car put me off petrolmotors forever, it didnt like the cold or wet at all and would get decidedly jerky if i upset it by pushing the choke in too quick. Its strange but the young drivers of today have never seen a choke  i must admit i dont miss them!!

I took that motor everywhere, including over ploughed fields and it never ever got stuck, the narrow tyres kept it going and i got out of numerous scrapes in that little Nova.....

One of the best memories i have was when we had been on a fishing/shooting trip on the , ahem :whistling: , extensive permission. I was driving us home complete with several grouse etc in the boot. Just happened to be watching the heather more than the road and drove straight into a drystone wall and ditch!!:cry: had to climb out through the passenger window in true style..... :clapper:

That "Nova-Dose" was a great first car for me...:thumbs:

My first car was a Beford HA van. 996 cc engine 4 gears and a golf ball in the petrol tank.

my mate thought it a laugh to put a golf ball in the tank so anything les than half a tank od fuel and all you heard was a DOINK DOINK DOINK as you went along, drove me mad.

I remember driving up the local seafront in it and i couldnt understand why folks were looking at me. wasnt till i got home i noticed the exhaust back box was draging on the floor as it had broke away from the exhaus and was bouncing on its rubber mount. i didnt notice the noise as it was so bloody noisey anyway :laugh:

My first car was a Ford Anglia for £25 which I bought out of the Sheffield Star newspaper "under £50" column in the early 70's. I was as proud as punch until the clutch went on the motorway on the way home from buying it so as it was not in my name and no breakdown cover I left the fecker on the hard shoulder and fecked off over the fields £25 down.

Hey well you win some and you lose some.

My first car was an X reg Cavalier saloon in that China Blue colour :icon_redface: I paid £150 for it, the mountain bike I bought the month before cost me £450 :icon_eek:

I go through cars like dinners, I buy scrappers to last me a wee while then I send them to my local scrappy  the 'best' car I bought was at the time 5yrs old Escort LX turbo diesel with full fancy pack, electrics CD and stuff

the best vehicle I had was the transit van, loved driving it, on the lookout for another now
