Cedric 132
I'm pretty new to pcp's, just having aquired a BSA Ultra. I find that after charging it the first couple of shots are often eratic. Is this normal and is it OK the fire off a couple with no pellet in the breech? Quote Link to post
villaman 9,982
Timmytree is spot on , before having a reg put in mine ,the sweet spot was 180 bar and having 25 good shots ,this is the old version mmc one and not the SE With the reg in I am getting 55-60 shots with no power curve Quote Link to post
mark williams 7,563
Good sound advice from TT and VM. A couple of lads i shoot with at my local range swear by the B.S.A Utra with the reg` in place and have many a shoot off for laughs with them. The reg`d Ultra is a very good rifle indeed. A pcp dry fired catches no harm as far as i`m aware mate. atb Edited July 6, 2014 by mark williams Quote Link to post
barrywhite 282
shooting a pcp with no pellet and full air cylinder is ok ,but shooting a pcp with no air or very little in the cylinder may cause a problem in some guns with the hammer hitting more than just a valve stem because the hammer has no air pressure to slow its progress . Cedric 132
Thanks for the info. My Ultra is the single shot with no air gauge but has had a regulator fitted before i got it. I rely on the gauge on the bottle when charging and it seems to go to 200 bar before stopping. The power is pretty much spot on, it's only the first couple of shots I was wondering about. I'll try filling it a few times and see if continues to be erratic. I just noticed my first and second shot last time were well off but then it grouped in one hole at 30 yards. Quote Link to post
David123 14
Yeah you'll be okay dry firing it, but its not really advised. It is recommended to store it with air in though Quote Link to post
The one 8,533
I fill mine too 200 bar then dry fire it as the fire shot after filling her is usually off , but after reading this its easy enough to put a pellet in it then fire it into the ground Quote Link to post
ShootistUK 1
I own a co2 powered Hammerli Air Magnum 850 and the owners manual recommends that you dry fire it to test whether the gas pressure is fine before firing a pellet out of it. I can see no reason why a PCP rifle would be any different - but checking in the owners manual would be my first suggestion. Quote Link to post
