teddog 59
Thanks for the kind words folks. Appreciate that. Socks - glad your Jill got sorted. Teddog - it may of been a different story if she wasn't insured and I had to find the full amount but a few hundred or even up to a thousand I think it's worth while. She's a promising young bitch, starting to learn the ropes and is starting to steady up, great around livestock, great with kids and other dogs and more importantly I have got a really good bond with her which money can't buy. what cross is she. Her sire was a deer/grey x collie/grey and her dam was a deer/grey x whippet. The sire died before the pups were born and the dam was sold on before the pups were 8 months old. From what I can gather she's the only pup that has made much or has much potential. I'm sure there were 6 pups. The runt went to a pet home and 4 that I know of have been sold on before they were 8 months old for one reason or another. Quote Link to post
Tiny 7 1,694
That's the bonus of spending a lot of time with your animals you can see when something is not right and jump on it straight away ... Those vital hours can save a dogs life as has been shown here ... I am sure she will be fine a fit strong young lurcher takes some knocking to keep them down ..... Had similar this week ... Nothing as bad as this ... But one of my Jill's just didn't look right and the kits were whinging more than usual and I suspected mastitis ... Took her to the vet and he wasn't convinced until he took her temperature and it was high ... A quick jab of anti biotics and she is as good as new .... You need to spend time with your animals to make sure they are tip top ......... Nail on the head. ...! Learn your stock 3 Quote Link to post

Gaz_1989 9,539
All the best mate bit of bad luck but everybody gets that everynow and again good luck for the season I'm due some good luck this season. My first season in the game saw me lose a 11 month old pup which I had from 6 weeks old. I then went a season without a dog and just ferreted. Then my first season with my old bitch was just getting a bond and trying to get something out of a disobedient rescue dog. My second season with with her she broke a toe and then later on suffered another toe injury. Then last weekend she broke another toe. She is pretty much retired now anyway but I was going to run her this season. That may not happen now. Luckily I don't think what's happened with the pup is going to have any effect on her first season. She should be right as rain in a couple of weeks, get the stitches out and start getting her fit for the season. Worse things have happened to better men. 1 Quote Link to post

nothernlite 18,089
Some vets think its a licence to print money when your dogs insured doing things that are not needed should be a law against these feckers 1 Quote Link to post
Sirius 1,391
Really bad luck, old fishing gear is lethal, you were lucky! Good news for the bitch you are insured Edited July 6, 2014 by Sirius Quote Link to post
nothernlite 18,089
Walk my dogs down the river everyday and the stuff you find is shocking last week one of my dogs had a wire trace with 2 trebles stuck to his leg.Always picking up line with hooks and splitshot on it there is some dirty feckers leaving there stuff behind Quote Link to post
skycat 6,173
I've just been thinking about that price! It does seem insane. I recently paid £800 for an out of hours Caesarean. OK, not the digestive tract, but still a delicate bit of surgery. I think I paid around the same amount for Dill, the Airedale, again out of hours and 4 years ago, to get the pebble removed from her intestine. Your dog's case sounds more complicated I know, but nearly 4 grand? That defies belief. 1 Quote Link to post
