Guest spartancombat
Hi guys. Can anybody on here give me some feedback on the hunting ability of a hancock bred lurcher, good or bad? I'll be looking for a new pup shortly for the rabbits and need to whittle down my list of possibilities. Also, did anybody ever try em on blue hare? Were they any good. Cheers . Quote Link to post

mole trapper 1,693
NO NO NO NO, NOT THIS AGAIN, ANY PUP GIVEN THE RIGHT STIMULATION, CORRECT FEEDING, AND HAS THE PHYSIQUE NEEDED WILL DO WHAT YOU WANT, IF YOU HAVE NOT OWNED ONE YOU DONT QUALIFY FOR AN OPINION. Quote Link to post
boris b 1
Maybe thats true to a degree , but myself i would rather have a dog from workers not a breeding machine as the chances for faliure are much smaller . Quote Link to post
madhunter 16
i had one turned out good bitch done what was asked of her.You only get what you put into the dog no matter were you get it from .So just suit your self if you put the time in with the pup it should do what you want Quote Link to post
snoopdog 1,256
come on MT you are right what you say about bring a young dog on ...but surly even you know he would be better getting a pup out off proven dogs not just money making machines ........ Quote Link to post

Guest SJM
Im sorry but I dont subscribe to this any pup will do bollocks, a good dog trainer will bring the best out in a pup but you cant put things like mouth, strike, stamina, heart into a dog, its either there or its not and you have more chance of getting it if you breed WORKER to WORKER and I have had a Hancock bitch so I am qualified to give an opinion I bought the bitch in as an adult she was a great little rabbiting dog, but she screamed blue murder when she got on a hare and never managed to kill a single one the whole time I had her, she was also very undersized IMO for a first cross collie/greyhound, I remember the first time I met BP he looked at the bitch and said "thats not one of davids breeding its too small " I showed him the ears and he said she must have been badly reared to end up so small, all I can say is whoever had her before me had done an excellent job of training the wee bitch, she sat, stayed, layed down, jumped etc on command and always retreived to hand, but at the end of the day the wee dog did not have what it takes to be great, and had what I consider a serious fault in a lurcher. If people want to waste their money I guess thats up to them, but there is plenty of threads on here and on other forums about Hancock and the amount of shite thats come out of his breeding farm, now its up to people to search for them, read them and make their own minds up. A good start would be the post I wrote about the guy who bought a pup off him and the pup had a broken leg from the age of 3 wks. Real nice breeder huh? Quote Link to post

mackay 3,364
I 'm not looking to stir things up here, I had a Hancock bitch and considered her awell above average dog and I think safe to say that went for anyone who seen her. Was I lucky, maybe, or maybe I'm just easy pleased, would I go back for another, I genuinely can't say because I've seen good, bad and downright crap come out his kennels. BUT this could be said of any breeder. A genuine question for all those who post saying they had one and they're crap, and lets have some honest answers how many other crap dogs have you owned from so called working parents that are conveniently erased from memory. Before anyone jumps in I'm not promoting Hancock breeding is a major factor but so is rearing, feeding, training human input in general and access to game and to be given the opportunity to take it.
