SAFalconer 10
I imagine he meant 'what are the advantages/disadvantges between these birds' but I imagine you know that.\ You hit the nail on the head. I wanted to know are there any advantages in have 1/8th Saker in this hybrid. The way I see it there would be know difference between a pure Gyr and a 7/8th Gyr in terms of heat tolerance. I might be wrong but see no advantage to this hybrid. I see the point of a 50/50 GyrxSaker but a 7/8 x 1/8. Quote Link to post
arcticgun 4,548
I think a lot of breeding hawk wise is simply done because it can be , theres far more produced than theres actual need for visit any sales site thats obvious, do these people's need too breed ever year likely not , fetches prices of birds down but reduces quality I would imagine, some are far more into breeding than hunting the hawks, keep too many too fly out, think it becomes pointless then, stocks just stagnant, sat in breeding pens year in year out not much of a life really, maybe better if only those with full order book breed, saves surplus being wasted. Regarding why they percentages? Think most trying too rereate the wheel, generally trying too improve on natures blueprint, I cant moan I really enjoyed flying a hybrid, 1 Quote Link to post

jakk 6
What is the difference between a pure Gyr and a 7/8th Gyr x 1/8th Saker hybrid? The difference is heat resistance and aspergillosis resistance in the 7/8th. Sakers are hardy birds and harden the gyrs system for hunting in the heat. 7/8th are very proven in the field and so they definitely arent a fad, jakk Quote Link to post
SAFalconer 10
Thanks Jakk . I was wanting to know as I live in South Africa. Quote Link to post
