where is the match?

Your gear is a bit beefy for the river, but the specimen rod and a method feeder should do the trick for barbel and chub.

It's on a lake, but i don't know what's in it. I think i'll try the lighter rod, maybe get some 5 or 6lb line and some smaller hooks. Might cover a few angles with that.

Looking at the previous posts it seems to be more of a match venue than specimen .

I'd definatly fish the pole...

You can equip yourself properly but to do so would be very expencive ....

You'll need a landing net / keep net,

Pole (elasticated)

Roller

Bait boxes

Pole rigs ....

This should get you catching a few.....

You could also opt for a waggler / feeder approach that would again require different kit....

Just all hinges on how much your looking to spend .

As little as possible as this stuff will be in my shed till the next comp. Might get some cheap stuff off ebay.

Go for a nice light waggler set up .....a second hand rod / reel, and a few items of terminal tackle won't cost much.....

Wagglers

Waggler attachments

Reel line

Shot

Hooks to nylon

Oh and don't forget your disgorger !!

I think there's some floats in the shed somewhere. "Waggler attachments." :hmm:

I'm going to join a fishing forum to ask. I think you're all trying to confuse me with "method feeders" "dink dink" and whip.

When i were a lad it were a 10ft rod, 4lb mainline tied direct to a no.16 hook.
