OldTrapCollector 377
Yes, they are a similar design to the Fenn and Springer, and equally legal (on the STAO) but they have stronger springs www.solwayfeeders.com/categories/spring-traps-c193.html Quote Link to post

iwm 71
Try cylindrical tunnel traps. I had some from Albion manufacturing, I needed to clear rabbits from a large gorse area on a golf course and the head groundsman didnt like the idea of cutting the bushes back. The rabbit is caught alive as the trap is pushed into the rabbit hole and could be time consuming on large warrens but i used it on several smaller warrens. I only used them as i found the purse nets harder to place and keep clear of snags, and the dog hated the gorse bushes. I only had three but left them overnight and out of sight under the gorse, and had one or two in each trap over the next few days. IWM Quote Link to post
Matt 160
The Solway traps are made in China. That, in itself, is enough to stop me wanting them, better springs or not. I like to spend my money in the UK on UK made products whenever possible; it's just my opinion and I'd not condemn others for buying foreign stuff. Quote Link to post

It's a fair point Matt, but wouldn't you rather have a more humane trap regardless of where it was made? Say, for example, it was made in the USA, would that make any difference? The true Fenn could be made so much better by stronger springs, but they are obviously not bothered. Another angle is: why buy from a trap manufacterer that 'isn't bothered'? Just playing Devil's Advocate... 1 Quote Link to post
Matt 160
Just playing Devil's Advocate... As was I; to a degree The thing is, whilst I don't doubt what other people say about the springs on the Fenns, personally, I've not had a problem with them I'm happy to buy products from abroad when there's no alternative, but I also find that buying a 'knock off' of a good british designed and built trap leaves a foul taste in my mouth As I said earlier, it's just me and my weird sense of patriotism and honour, but I wouldn't want to dirty my hands on a copy of a copy of a good British product. Having said that, I don't condemn those that choose differently If it works for you, then go for it Quote Link to post
OldTrapCollector 377
You won't find a better patriot for Fenn traps, they don't exist. BUT, if DB Springs who now make the trap under license, would just beef up the springs (that they actually make themselves) then the Fenn spring trap would be MUCH better IMO And they risk losing their status and/or their fan club if they do not keep up with the competition for really humane traps. Alan Fenn would turn in his grave ... OTC 1 Quote Link to post
