Buch 145
To be fair he got asked the question and gave his opinion, he wasnt even too critical. Take this with a pinch of salt if you like but the back of Ray Mears landrover was knee deep in MacDonalds wrappers when he turned up to a talk he was giving us. I guess hes good at what he does, im sure hes infinatly better than me.

Born Hunter 17,784
You SURE he served with the SAS mate? The SAS neither confirm nor deny who served with them. Was I heard it, he was in the TA, as a special forces reservist. . . . . not quite the same. Mans just a fake. What Bear Grylls knows you can learn on a couple of week Bushcraft course and from reading a few books. Ain't rocket science. As sure as I am any of the other 'names' have done. He served with 21 SAS which along with 23 SAS are the reservist SAS regiments. It's not 22 Regt no but they still have to pass a gruelling selection and training (watered down version of the regulars selection) and will be deployed along side regulars from 22 Regt. It's a bit more than just the TA. And that's just one of his achievements. All I'm saying is the chap is more than just the wannabe or fake he comes across as, he's done some pretty impressive shit by anybodies standards. I'm not a big fan of his but untill I've done some impressive stuff I'm not gonna look a c**t by knocking him.
Born Hunter 17,784
Lofty tells it how it is Only just been able to watch that mate. Pretty much puts into words exactly what I think of Bear Grylls, LOL. Like I said, the man has some great achievements but his TV shows are far too Hollywood and dramatic for me to actually enjoy. But he's catering for townies and kids and that's what sells. As for Raymondo, I'm not a survivalist so can't comment but he's done a lot of documentary type programmes studying the historical aspects of survival and subsistence living which I do find interesting. Fairplay, he may have done a few bits, but no more than stacks of other lads. I guess my biggest issue with him is that he kind of uses it to impress people, which few other genuine lads who have served in the SAS ever do. Oh yer. . . . . and he comes across like a total bell end. Personally if I was stuck on an Island with him, I'd strangle the twat and crack on a lone. At least if I died in the wilderness, it'd be as a happier man lol.
Born Hunter 17,784
Yeah 'c**ts' a bit strong, LOL, sorry. I'm just speaking plainly, I don't actually think someone is a c**t for knocking him. Just to me at least, it looks a bit rich to knock him when his achievements really are quite great. Plenty of lads have done similar impressive things but a couple of things he's done have also been world firsts. I agree with you really, I just also think he is deserving of a bit of respect for his genuine achievements regardless of how likeable he is for his personality flaws. That's all I originally wanted to point out with my first post.
Ideation 8,216
Yer fair point BH . . . . . i'm just a miserable twat lol. I'll tell you whats worse. . . . is the fat blokes with the landrover, who watch a bit of Bear Grylls, do a week long course and then set them selves up a a bush craft / survival expert and instructor. But thats another story lol.

That's all I originally wanted to point out with my first post. which world firsts has he achieved mate? According to Wikipedia, so bear with me ; First team to attempt to paramotor over angel falls. I admit attempt and success are two different things. World record for longest sustained indoor free fall. Paramotoring over the Himalayas. Some of the more impressive stuff was not world firsts. Stuff like climbing everest and crossing the Atlantic Ocean unassisted and as I've mentioned passing selection for 21 SAS. Also attempting to scale an unclimbed peak in Antarctica, but breaking a bone being a lairy pratt f****d it for him.
Born Hunter 17,784
I'm not making out he's some f*****g super hero or legend, but the stuff he has done isn't regular joe bloggs stuff. Some of that is real substance testing stuff and takes grit. I just think he deserves a bit of respect for that side of him. Edited July 2, 2014 by Born Hunter

It is a shame he lies though like making out he was the youngest Brit to scale Everest when that was not true (And since a 13 year old child has just managed it is it really that hard?) like claiming he flew over Everest when he didn't. IMHO real hero's, real men for that do not need to lie or embellish or steal others achievements to gain adulation.

He's no hero that's for sure and as Ideation like you have said there is that bullshit side of him that sours the obvious grit he has. You want to talk about real amazing and inspirational people... well for me that's old and bold Special Boat Service lads! And guess what none of them have TV shows and inspirational lectures, hard enough finding books by them! I didn't mean to upset anybody that thinks he's a fanny, because I do to. I just personally see that behind all the bollocks the chap clearly has grit not often seen in joe bloggs.

Richard that comes here beating is probably the most inspirational man I can think of but getting him to talk about anything other than his little black cocker spaniel is like getting blood from a stone

paulf 820
got a good book here which gives a little insitght into the SBS born hunter it dont go into to much detail but its a good read ... the problem with every tom ,dick and harry writing about the SAS most of which is full of shit as we all know is it ruined the whole secrecy of the regiment ... as for the SBS not much is writen on them which can only be a good thing .
