Frank Dux The Real Deal

Recommended Posts

He started to develop his own style when he was in the early stages of his training apparently much the same as Bruce lee ... People like them seem to have the mind to understand the mechanics of movement and how just by very subtle changes in position or strike can turn a seemingly regular movement into a deadly one ......

I have entered a few freestyle comps over the years and was invited to an upcoming competition but at 45 I reckon I would be pushing it a bit lol ......   Anyway it got me thinking about the kumite

He's no faster than me when a rabbit hits the net...........................

Things have changed.. Today. we have MMA , Cage Fighting etc,..but back then,..there was no Martial Arts Council,.no safety requirements and scant allowance made for Health and Safety,...in short, it

Sorry to disagree chaps, if that's the man - I'm not impressed, too rigid and upright. . Lee, for me would have made short work of him. . Don't thinking he would have handled some fella's around today, George St Pierre to mention one. . It can be easy to look good against certain opposition. . Loved the movie though!

Things have changed..

Today. we have MMA , Cage Fighting etc,..but back then,..there was no Martial Arts Council,.no safety requirements and scant allowance made for Health and Safety,...in short, it was crazy as feck... ..but a great time for camaraderie...

There are few feelings in life ( and I have experienced many  ) that can compare with putting on a nice, crisp clean Gi and stepping out, onto the mat...The 'high' that you get when a hard training session is over,.is on a par with most recreational drugs,..and once you have tasted the buzz of pure exhilaration and that amazing feeling of well being,...it is nie-on impossible to replace it....

It is hard to believe,.but 40 years ago,.I enjoyed such things,.and my one regret,.. is that I wasted so much time, on lost causes and like so many others, became ruined, by the classical mess...

For me,.Brazilian JIu Jitsu was the way to go,...alas,..it is too late now...

Anyway, nice to see lads showing interest in such things..

All the best, Phil.

i prefare the k1 competitions to mma as the modern mma is to quick to go to ground where it gets boring. and k1 has no weight divisions either so the best man most likely will win

Are you sure there's no weight classes in K1?

A mate who's a very good middleweight thai boxer reckons be's gonna do more of that,he'll have his feckin work cut out for him if you're right.

you should check out san shou and shootboxing, both a bit more complete than K1 but without groundwork.

I remember when mixed training was frowned upon and classed as being disloyal to your instructor  id do so long at a club then move on :icon_redface:

I was once talking to a well known instructor and i asked why dont you teach ground fighting ... no need he said its usaully all over before it gets to the ground , thats when i realised the bloke was a plonker and it was time to find another club

its all too easy saying so and so could beat whoever but if he was only 19 then he was still learning i bet ...

imagine if he was about now in his prime ,bet he would take some stopping imo...

look at his hand speed very very fast with knockout power too ,some fighters have real quick hand speed some have real power but for someone who can knock people out without planting his feet like this kid did then i would say he woud take some beating in todays mma ..

http://m.sportsbreak.com/ufc/10-biggest-upsets-in-ufc-history/6/

Was just browsing and came across this earlier.

No contact sport or competition comes close to modern mma, imo,so many trained disciplines done at at such a high level, great sport.

The kumite is exactly that except there is no weight division so you could be fighting anybody of any size or discipline .... And to lose you submit get knocked out or die ... A bit more dangerous than the mma .........

It's not as dangerous well rounded or skilled as mma I'm not taking anything away from them they go in and have they're fight but it's civilised compared to mma with they're gee and correct stance and straight lines if they were around today and trained in today's techniques they would probably be some of the best but the standard they were at is no where near the standard of today's mma fighters
