socks 32,253
It's not as dangerous well rounded or skilled as mma I'm not taking anything away from them they go in and have they're fight but it's civilised compared to mma with they're gee and correct stance and straight lines if they were around today and trained in today's techniques they would probably be some of the best but the standard they were at is no where near the standard of today's mma fighters I think your talking about the modern kumite which is karate led I am talking of the five yearly kumite competition .... Here is a list of frank dux achievements ..... From 1975 to 1980 Frank W. Dux fought 329 matches. He retired undefeated as the World Heavy Weight Full Contact Kumite Champion. Mr. Dux still holds four world records: Fastest Knockout - 3.2 seconds Fastest Punch with a Knockout - .12 seconds Fastest Kick with a Knockout - 72 mph Most Consecutive Knockouts in a Single Tournament - 56
DannyMc 143
To lose you submit get knocked out or die. What's the difference? I'm taking nothing away from the Kumite Socks, but it looks very raw compared to today's professional mma, most of the modern fighters are so well rounded in all these different disciplines they'd take these guys apart. General lee 979
I'm talking about the kumite and they are impressive records but 56 knockouts in a tournament who was he fighting midgets come on seriously a modern mma fighter or boxer couldn't have 56 fights in a tournament they would be dead a human couldn't take the kind of damage modern fighters inflict for that many fights and you say he was 19 in that video take mike Tyson at 19 and match them frank wouldn't be tackling 55 more fighters he'd be in surgery
neems 2,406
http://m.sportsbreak.com/ufc/10-biggest-upsets-in-ufc-history/6/ Was just browsing and came across this earlier. No contact sport or competition comes close to modern mma, imo,so many trained disciplines done at at such a high level, great sport. mma isn't a combination of arts,it's one distinct art. That's like saying muay thai is a combination of savate, kickboxing, boxing, silat and feck knows what else, but it's not it's just muay thai. thai boxers have poorer movement than boxer, that's so they can block leg kicks easier, not because they're lazy. MMA fighters very rarely throw high kicks, because they're leg would get caught and they'd get took down, not because they lack balance or technique. etc etc no combat athelete slacks is my point, they put 100% into their own techniques. I've fought B class muay thai ,boxed amateur and been in a few combat jujitsu tournament's (mma),and none is easier than the other.
DannyMc 143
Mixed martial arts-for the fighting style that combines different arts. I'd say that it's a unique sport that combines many different fighting techniques. I wouldn't disagree that it has evolved into its own martial art,the fact that there are so many mma gyms that teach the full range tells me that, but that wasn't always the case, many fighters of the past, and some of the present, started of only knowing the one way to fight but soon realised if they wanted win they had to learn the others. When a trainer is teaching to block a leg kick would he not be teaching Muay Thai? Or when teaching a takedown would that not be teaching to shoot? Etc.
neems 2,406
I don't know about shoot, but know a mma would get taken down if habitually blocked like a muay thai man (especially the mid range kicks),because ankle hooks are banned among other reasons. same as a muay thai fighter would get the back of his head elbowed to a pulp if he initiated a clinch from as low as some mma do,because in muay thai that's allowed. it would all become apparent if you done a couple of months of each, completely distinct arts in every way.
Ggib 370
mma is bruce lees spawn, where no way is the way, which his water speech explains it very directly. basically dont restrict yourself to 1 way or form, be good at lots that way you never become predictable. imho a top boxer against a top martial artist, the boxer should be well out classed by kicks alone. bruces way was to use your longest weapon (legs) to attack the nearest limb of your opponent closest to you, keeping you furthest from the danger hence why bruce does a lot of kicks. but for street fighting id prefare muay thai any day. street fights never do well for both fighters when on the ground, boots going in all roads from both sets of mates lolol
neems 2,406
To quote bruce lee "there is no correct technique, only the correct technique in a given instance" Remember that next time you watch mma and don't see a single eye gouge, knee to a downed opponent, strike to the groin or most obviously an elbow to the back of the head. just like a boxer is restricted in the techniques he can use so is the mma athlete. General lee 979
In the cage yes he is just like all sports but when you train in mma you are shown eye gouges illegal chokes kicks to the bollox and everything else it takes to win mma is exactly what it says it is the best from all the fighting styles in the early days when almost anything went all styles were represented and BJJ was the winner remember that when you watch Bruce lee acting in films
Chid 6,582
i prefare the k1 competitions to mma as the modern mma is to quick to go to ground where it gets boring. and k1 has no weight divisions either so the best man most likely will winAre you sure there's no weight classes in K1?A mate who's a very good middleweight thai boxer reckons be's gonna do more of that,he'll have his feckin work cut out for him if you're right. you should check out san shou and shootboxing, both a bit more complete than K1 but without groundwork. there is weight classes in k1
