John Stott 202
I like the Hawke range, very good quality optics for a fair price. I also have a BSA Essential x30 mounted on a "fun gun" we use in a paddock for target work. Its a gem and at around £30 a good buy. Uttings have a great range and it is worth a browse. I have settled on Hawke Sports x40 with one inch tubes for several of my serious rifles. All around £100 mark but they have proved themselves more than good enough for air and rimfire work. Good luck though. Quote Link to post
valboskie 39
If you spend slightly more and look second hand you can pick up a nice scope. I judt sold ha hawke the 4-12x40 ao ir scope 6 months old for £70. There are some great scopes out there just above your budget. I would save a little longer and buy a better scope second hand cheers david Quote Link to post
Lid 194
Thanks for the tip David. I do have more budget available, but I was trying to match the quality of scope to the quality of this particular air rifle. My main want is a big depth of field to minimize refocusing at different distances. I seem to remember scopes I used in the past were in good focus for a wide range of ranges, but maybe my eyes were just better then! Currently we are on holiday, but I will get back on this project when I return. Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
Yes not bad advice as I have a hawke panorama on my 22lr but I also have Nikko sterling gameking on my hmr and both work supremely throughout daytime use and are relatively cheap....get a variable possibley a 3-9 and you'll be more than impressed. Rake aboot 4,935
A 60 quid scope wont be much better than the AGS. I`d persevere an set it up. Get out and use it and then decide whether you can live with it or not. Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
I beg to differ...for an air rifle where range isn't much of a factor and shock of recoil isn't much the makes I have mentioned are reasonably cheap and I wouldn't say they're crap...sure you can get better but I run them on my rimfires and they work fantastic as I take shots out past the 130 yards mark quite often, they do exactly what they say on the tin. If you want to spend more you can and I would with a higher calibre but I thinks pointless in an air rifle especially for a name and a couple of extra minutes sunlight at the end of the day...that's just gun snobbery I believe. That being said I'm sure if you read up you'll find certain models do work well and some are problematic, dont feel the need to spend big because everyone else tells you, Nikko and hawke are the bottom end of the scale but they are still reputable brands.
