Cheaper than that mate Get yourself a good set of Bolt croppers

Sound advice this. I'd buy a good 2nd hand one before I spent money on a cheap new one....e-bay, gumtree etc., there's loads to choose from. If it's all going to be roadwork I'd invest in a pair of s

Mountain bikes lose 50% of their value as soon as they go out of the shop. I've got one here I've had for 12 years, spent a grand to buy it, spent the same on upgrades over the years and its probabl

Others have all mentioned brands which are good but more importantly, go for a hard tail (front suspension only) as if you went for full suss you'd be knackered trying to pedal up any hills as the rear shock would take all weight and momentum making it proper hard work for yourself... eBay, guntree and www.pinkbike.com is excellent but little more too end market...

Thanks for all the advice

I was lookin for a hard tail anyway as I won't be doing too much off road

Go full rigid, most of the old steel Kona Lavadomes, Explosifs and kilauea's have triple butted project 2 lead unicrown forks that negate trail buzz and plenty of them can be bought clean enuf for 200. Tange prestige is probably the best steel format (colombus and 853 is a stiffer racing steel/less flex/less compliant). Shimano aftermarket parts are readilly available and anything from LX upwards is gud, xt is a bonus and xtr is for the gary glitters. Thumb style gear shifters are nearly all good and virtually unbreakable with the allowance to drift 4/5 gears should you get caught short.Disc's are bollocks and handy for the folk who cannot set-up a pair of v-brakes (properly set-up v's will have a bike locked up from single finger action) Dont make the mistake of buying a bike before you're conversant with what will fit you.

Double like if I could :victory:

Get a bike from a "proper" bike shop, they'll give you no end of advice and set the bike up for you as well.

I see so many people riding bikes with their knees up in the air, arse on the floor etc etc.

To ride it properly/efficiently it needs setting up properly. Real bike shops the way to go, even if you buy it elsewhere.

Cheers, D.

Poor pic's allowed this to sneak thru, mint versions of this offering will give a racing bike an hardtime, made between 95 and 97 in forrest green gold and maroon...the eliptical tubeing is specific to this sub variant, after 97 853 tubeing arrived. From memory it should have a white industies front hub that spins for about 15 mins after one spin of the wheel ('darlin's)

ps...anyone buying an older bike always make sure the seatpost can be drawn from the seatube

Dont know if you've fluked it or not but bizarrely you're getting real warm there with the voodoo, dont know much about the bike but with that much kit for that little money i'd guesstimate it's more than half shit, that said Halfords did sell steel voodoo's till very late in the day (could'nt move them once the bouncy disc fashion changed) and beautifully crafted steel voodoo biz's sat in halfords up until 04 (from memory)...without googling i think voodoo was bill murray who designed the original kona's....i'll stand corrected though, some yank head who had done more than a bit.

wait for a good steel variant to show up, ride till the parts are thrashed then exchange for xt and you'll have a cracking piece of kit for half a k. Me eyes are tired but i think the period biz had funky shaped tubes...kids with plenty of 10k lots rave about the early steel voodoo's....for gud reason.

pardon me with the bill murray shout, i meant Joe murray, didnt know he worked for Merlin.

If you fancy retro-fit wait for a steel frame and because you'll buy it cheap than chips you can go a little extra on the componentary
