Cheaper than that mate Get yourself a good set of Bolt croppers

Sound advice this. I'd buy a good 2nd hand one before I spent money on a cheap new one....e-bay, gumtree etc., there's loads to choose from. If it's all going to be roadwork I'd invest in a pair of s

and its probably worth about £300 tops now.

If your doing a lot of flat roads etc get a hard tail front suspension bike. Brands like Specialized, Trek, Kona, Marin, Scott, GT, etc etc all make good bikes. Try and find one that was about £600 new and is for sale at about £200.

If you don't know much about bikes, go to your nearest decent independent bike shop, not Halfords or petrol station bikes etc and ask for advice.

Good luck. MTBs are awesome bang for your bucks, if you get a decent one.

If it's all going to be roadwork I'd invest in a pair of slick/road tyres also. Happy hunting.

If I was you I'd be looking for a hybrid road/mountain bike.

For road and path work the hybrid tyres are great. Takes less effect to use than full on mtb tyres, which means longer ride.

Halfords carrera range is spot on, don't buy a cheap bike. Buy a good bike for cheap

Don't forget Gumtree.... no fannying about with auctions etc. Bought myself a Scott Sportster hybrid (basically a MTB with skinny wheels and road tyres) off there a couple of years ago for £250...saving me about £300. There was barely a scratch on it!
