Daz39 962
Went back up to work with Mac this week, Matt should have been there but he was on a hen do with his girlfriends haha. There was a little matter of “who will reach 100 rabbits for the year first” and “who will get the biggest bag on the night”….bit of friendly rivalry with the old master. Mac had been out 2-3 times and moved his tally from 84 to 100 before I could get out, so he claimed the 100 club hat first. So Sat night was about catch up for me. Arriving on site we both headed different directions. We had been given a couple of spots to try to clear of pigeons and on rounding the first corner, I took 4 shots (one resting on a wall, 3 free standing) to take out a pair of crows on the fire water tank (to put out fires, not whiskey) and a pair of pigeons on the bulk perfume tanks. All 4 birds landed on the top of the tanks (30-40 foot up) so I couldn’t get them. Walking up the side of the site I saw my first rabbit and took a heart shot (couldn’t see the head) at 38 yards, he ran off and got 15-20 yards where he lay rolled over. As I went to follow him I spotted another rabbit sat on some stony ground about 50-60 yrds off. I slowly stalked him and took a standing shot from 35 yrds and down he went. I walked over to pick up rabbit number 2 and on the way back saw Mac up on the back field. We got chatting and I forgot the first rabbit (Head was all over Sat night). It wasn’t until I was halfway back round site that I remembered (I picked it up on the next loop). I took another couple of crows and a pigeon from the roof of the warehouse before completing the loop. On the next walk round after the odd pigeon here and crow there I got to the back of the site where the unloading docks are and took my 3rd rabbit at around 25 yards. Not much else doing. Mac was off on his own and we would meet back at the car ever hour or so. The 4th loop we met round the back of site, I spotted a big rabbit behind the fence separating the main site with the pond field. I stopped Mac in his tracks, pointed to it and off he went. He go to about 30 yrds and took a knee, as he was getting ready, the rabbit just looked up, and ran. The ESP bunnies are back! We walked to the gate of the field and I spotted a big rabbit run round the side of the warehouse, I told Mac and he said he was off after that one, so I went up on the pond field. I scared off a pair of rabbits which ran the full 200 yrds of the field to the tree line, I walked over to go lay up but spotted a pair of ears in the grass. I stalked to 30 yrds and went prone, however the grass drops to a small bank here and I couldn’t see the rabbit when I lay down. As I stood up the rabbit ran but only 10 yrds so I took a standing shot, just as I did he stood up to listen for me and the pellet went through the neck rather than the brain. He lay down non-the less. Now on 99 for the year, I lay up and waited for one of the rabbits to come back out. I only had to wait 20 mins when one more came out, cross hairs on and a perfect 42 yrd shot, right behind the eye. Finally caught up with Mac in the 100 club! I shot another three that night, but one flipped into a storage area which was locked (the security guys were supposed to go open it but never did), one pushed through a tree line, when I went round the back to collect it, the damn warren was exactly behind where he pushed into, the last did a 4 foot back flip into brambles and search as I like, I couldn’t find him. So, 5 rabbits, 14 pigeons and 6 crows for me. Only 3 of my pigeons were retrievable and the crows I binned as I walked around. Mac I know took 2 rabbits, one he couldn’t pick up as it was just out of reach behind a fence (10 foot with razor wire, no chance to climb it), but I could see the rabbit so I know he had it. He also had 6 crows and I forgot to check on the pigeons. He had the same issue with me, we are shooting in a manufacturing site, 99% of the pigeons are on storage tanks or warehouse roofs, not in trees. When they drop, they drop in paces we can’t get to. He did manage to walk away with 3 nice breasts though. ONE crap thing did happen though….We were back at the cars (parked at security) when I saw one of the security guards walking back to the building. He was pointing at a lamp and when I looked, there was a huge fat pigeon sat on it. I quickly grabbed my gun and took aim, just as I took the shot, the pigeon took flight, but the pellet hit him in the neck and he came crashing down to earth…..right next to a parked car! The site is closed off on weekends so normally there is just us and the security team. I hadn’t noticed a wifey drive on to site to pick up the same security guard as was pointing at the pigeon, to take him home after his shift (the car wasn’t visible from where I was). To make it worse, she had her 2 year old granddaughter in the car, to make it even worse, the damn pigeon landed right next to the granddaughters window….. Perfect. Never apologised so much in my life. Mac's rabbit at the top, my 5 rabbits and 3 birds at the bottom. No uber close ups of blasted brains or anything.... 4 Quote Link to post

Guessing it was residential No but you do need todo 1, a risk assesment 2 go through a security check be fore your aloud on site 3, and when on site you need to do a safety induction or your off site be fore you start if you fail 4 must tell the police that your there and get a log number 5 all ways be aware that there are members of the public around you some times only 6 feet away from you and never and i mean NEVER shoot in that direction a bit annoying when there is a rabbit sitting next to the fence and you have to wait until it runs across the road but better than being locked up . atvbmac  2 Quote Link to post
Daz39 962
Nice shooting, do you need a kind of licence or permit type thing to shoot in residential areas? Guessing it was residential Its a factory, but is has residential buildings opposite, a school to one side, a field to the otherside and the back has a wooded area and a steep bank (good back drop). So as Mac says, no licence, but very smart and sensible shooting (plus the method statement and risk assessment as Mac said). It doesn't help that half the chemicals on site are flamable and/or explosive..... Mac, did I warn you about that? haha. 1 Quote Link to post
