25kg is bollox mate i am afraid .

there is no set weight according to law . the maximum weight is one the individual is comfortable with . ie a strong man may be able to lift 40kg comfortably but a weaker man may only be able to lift 15kg comfortably . so it is down to the individual . if in doubt contact your local hse office .

as above there is no max weight as every ones different but there are measures to protect you you can request a risk assessment and if your not happy with the result you can appeal against it it is thought that 20-25 kg is heavy for most people but it also depends on shape you MUST be able to lift it correctly if its shape doesn't allow this then it requires two or more people

have a look at the link bellow you can email them with your question and they will give you an in-depth answer

If the law is the same in england then i'm afraid your in for a shock, because a few years ago the law was changed back to no legal weight, this is because a man in a repetative job lifting 10kg 500 or 600 times was doing more harm than a man lifting 50 or 60kg 20 times a day.

so the legal weight limit was done away with and the companys know this.

but if 50kg and above then you are entitled to get someone to lift the weight with you, only you need to be relatively the same size as the person giving you a hand as to avoid shifting the weight to one side, eg the smaller man takes the brunt of the weight.

hope this helps.
