How Do You Keep Your Dog Fit In This Heat ?

Recommended Posts

just keep them ticking over .if they aint chasing anything they will go at there own pace ..you can not keep a dog fully fit all year round.walks by lakes rivers streams ect.so they can take a drink

none of my dogs swim they don't like it.. they paddle and that's it.lolol.summer time is rest time .and if they have had a hard season rest is the best cure ..fook bikeing them at this time of year. nice steady long walks by water.is good enough for mine ...plenty of time to get them fit come august time .

i often take mine for a run down a very quiet backroad about 9/10pm at night... prefer it that way.. its a popular dog walking spot during the day and about 1/3 of it is offroad down a dirt track through bog and forestry... thinking of getting a reflective strip fer the dogs collar

Throw a stick in the nearest bit of sea.

Wish I could got loads of beaches within 10 or 20min from me but think it's the holiday capital for the traveling midlanders ;-) on a serious note though my beaches are either closed to dogs packed with holiday makers or too many other dog walkers had a couple near misses with yapy toy dogs mine don't take kindly to them annoying him

It's a pain in the arse here with the heat in summer... But as said lot's of water play, early and late walks (although it's still hotter than Jimmy in a playground in the evening) there's a river a couple of miles from me, the sea is even closer but only allowed on the cnut with dogs in winter. TBH I just took the dog everywhere with me and made sure we did a very long (but chilled) walk in the mountains early morning once a week. Another way is the skates for road work and let the bugger pull you lol again early morning.

Skates now there's an idea :-) can see it ending in tears though def mine ;-)

Once they click it's great fun. I used to overtake cars with Trev pulling me. He'd go mental when I got the skates out yet couldn't give a shoite if I got out the lead hahaha lol For Christ's sake teach them a stop command before taking to the streets lol

Why does the dog need to be fighting fit in June / July?

I take my rabble out for an hour or so each evening just before dark, they have a mooch around and chase a few bunnys. . . . . that's enough for me and them.

fairly... you might run unto 1 car but all my dogs are trained to jump onto the grass verge on command

0330 run on the bike when it's nice and cool, doing a mixture of sprints, medium and long distance running covering three mornings each week. Afternoons it's just an easy stroll or some pulling.
