DeerhoundLurcherMan 997
Skycats fitness and conditioning thread pinned at the top of this section is a good read, says she wouldn't bike any pup under 12 months. My pup is 9 1/2 months old and has "mooched" to a good level of fitness for a young'un. I've just started to do a bit of jogging round the block with him just to get him ready and used to running at whatever speed I'm going at, also helps him get used to trotting comfortably while cars wiz by, last thing I want is to be biking along with a nervous dog running in front of me every time he hears a new noise. We do about 20 mins and he doesn't even puff out the sides of him mouth, even with these warm nights. I'll probably get him going lightly with the bike about 11 months, and just watch him carefully, build him up slowly and not over do it. Quote Link to post
satan80 358
I've been running with my 15 month old for the last couple of months, i do 4-5 miles a couple of times a week and will probably step her up to 3/4 times a week in the next couple of months. She trots along side me on lead for most of the run but let her off a few times to have a dip in the canal and a little wander in the woods, she does struggle with the continual trotting but her stamina is improving. Agree with above, just gradually building up makes sense to make sure ligament and tendons strengthen up and adapt slowly Quote Link to post

The last time we spoke you were backing groves and calling me a dreamer for saying that Froch would stop the fight again  No hard feelings Quote Link to post

paulf 820
I take mine out on the bike a bit, I'd just say to keep a close eye on pad wear and tear , and try and get them in the water if it's anything like our current weather. Water is great for exercising them in this weather i used to take mine over the river stand in up to my waist with a longish lead on the dogs and then walk backwards so they will swim to you great for low impact exercise when the ground is hard ....also would shampoo them at the same time . 1 Quote Link to post
slip lead 862
I wouldn't bike a dog of that age, long walks on and of the lead would do him much better, after all he doesn't need to be a "machine" for this season on rabbits. It's this time next year I would be starting the heavy conditioning when he will be upgrading to long ears.. Good luck with him and happy hunting. 1 Quote Link to post
