Ossie n Arch 1,682
Used to, till the Carper moved in. Mainly Skimmers now. Fishing hard at the moment. Struggling. Quote Link to post
Ossie n Arch 1,682
End of day catch. Fished a lot harder than I thought it would. Nice to catch a few though. Enjoyed it. 2 Quote Link to post
Ossie n Arch 1,682
And your off lol... Nice looking mature water mate, does it hold a few bream? Old estate lake Kev, oringinally owned by the Coal Board. Standard Bream fishing. Clipped up G/B feeder with Caster and Squatt. Double Red Maggot on the hook. Corn of Worm later for the bigger bream, if they show. Iv'e fished here for the best part of 30yrs, it used to be all Bream fishing. Mainly Skimmers with the odd Bream up to 3-4lb. It also has Carp in it to mid 30's. Since the Carp boom, you struggle to get on it at the weekends. The matches used to be 70 peg sell outs, back in the day. Everyone fishing the feeder. Those who could cast the farthest generally won. Those with secret G/B mixes also did alright. Bream in the summer in the shallow part, Caster Roach in the deeps in winter. I'ts for sale. Unfortunatly, I don't have 800K lying around else i'd buy it and fook the Carp off and return it to what it was, a nice pleasent general fishing venue. 1 Quote Link to post
NEWKID 27,129
It's funny how waters change mate, Our local canal is not your traditional cut type.. 7 miles long, most parts 30- 50 yards wide and 12ft deep.. The widest part, the Lyme kilns, us around 70 yards wide.. Now this was a proper match venue back in the day, opens would attract plus 100 anglers, and 90% of the time it was won on the groundbait feeder for the skimmers and bream.. There was always the odd carp on it, but only 1 or 2 boys ever fished for them ( 1 a very good friend of mine who died a few years back, one if the most knowledgeable anglers I've ever met, I worked in the tackle shop with him, a proper pioneering specialist, 20 years ago before I'd heard the word specialist lol).. I loved this place, grew up on it.. First the perch, then learnt how to catch bream.. Now there are carp anglers everywhere on it, and there are hardly any skimmers now, there's some great tench fishing in it though, I had 7 in a morning session last year all around 5-6 lb. It's a big fish water now, although there's a good head of roach, everyone fishes for carp.. Matches you're lucky to see 20 blokes now.. 800k !!, if I win the lottery it'll be our joint venture lol Edited July 4, 2014 by NEWKID 1 Quote Link to post

NEWKID 27,129
You'll catch tonight mate, good day for fishing mate... Quote Link to post
Ossie n Arch 1,682
Same sh*t, different day. I thought "Tonights the night" too. Looked good and the weather was spot on. I spoke to another angler after packing up. He said all the fish he's caught, he'd caught during the night. 4am. I can only fish till about 11pm on a work night. Quote Link to post
NEWKID 27,129
Sounds like they feed for a short period each day mate, is the water fished heavily? You maybe missing that time, The bream on a stretch of river near here will not feed until early hours 1am until about 6am, I fished there all day from early until dusk and struggled fir bits, fish over night and you can bag up on big slabs.. Not much experience on barbel but the same could apply? Is the Trent not worth a shot, seems like there's good reports In The angling press but I don't know the stretches.. 1 Quote Link to post

The Trent is next on the list, but I've fished it lots before. I've set my stall out for a Dove Barbel. Some of the Dove is heavily fished, the bits where the biggest fish are strangely enough. I think there arent many fish in there, what fish there are are big and they mostly feed at night. That's at bit awkward for me midweek. I may have to fish all night at the weekend. Ossie n Arch 1,682
Iv'e got to catch a Barbel out of the Dove, simple as. Iv'e set myself up for it. A small river with only a few Barbel in it, but big ones. It could be a long and hard job, but i can't give in. The Trent is a different propect. Smaller Barbel and more of them. Big casts, big-heavy feeders, lots of casting. Fast flowing and a busier style of fishing. Not just sitting there and waiting (Like on the Dove) But being busy and casting regulary and waiting for the fish to turn up...............Hopefully. It's all doing my nut inTBH, but i can't stop untill i get one. 1 Quote Link to post
NEWKID 27,129
You better catch one before the Wye, it wouldn't seem right to break your duck anywhere but the dove now... 1 Quote Link to post
Ossie n Arch 1,682
Tonight's offering. One swim downstream from Mondays peg. Feeder across, straight lead down the middle. Usual array of wildlife. Very weak signal. The fish photo may have to wait until a better signal is found. Here's hoping. 3 Quote Link to post
