How Can I Tell If My Jill Is Pregnant?

Hello All,

 

I am new to ferrets and have had my 3 for about 9 months. I have 2 Jill's and one Hob ( vasectomised), he was done about 1 month ago but when comparing the girls one is lighter and a slender towards her bottom end. Also the behaviour has changed because the girls are always dragging each other back to the nest and the one girl (possibly Pregnant) has now started to try and drag the male. ( the male is from a different breeder so no brother sister mating is going here)

 

The lighter Jill has come back in to season again.

i find usually 2 weeks before the birth, if its a real pregnancy, she will loose all her winter coat rapidly, coming out in handfulls. if its a phantom pregnancy, she will loos the coat slowly.

You might no find out till the last week before shes due mate ,there will be a lot of weight gain and her hair will fall out round her nipples

Another waynof telling is lift her up and if her belly is swollen she will go into the shape of an upside down light bulb this is a sure sign she is pregnant good luck with it all

About the last week to give her time to settle down and prepare herself gives her plenty of time

They recommend waiting at least 6 weeks after the vasectomy before allowing the hob to mate a jill. Hopefully you waited long enough!

I will be sure to check, and if so I will separate her from the others before the day ( all being well). As for waiting six weeks no I didn't I may have been short a week or two as the two Jill's we're going crazy! So I let the boy do the job.
