for edibles my choice would be a 1st x deerhound/greyhound.on my 3rd one now and never embarrased me where and when it counts.

So they didn't like things that bite back? A few lads have said the same.

Lots of people have said that years ago the deer/grey took everything. But it seems less common today. Plenty of lads rate them except on teeth.

saw allsorts saw afew good colie crosses saluk crosses and both filled the bag on hard lamped land ground that would blow alot of heavy running dogs away , or small terrier type , there has been best but leave it for them that was there ,

I've seen good and bad of every cross down the years, sometimes its luck bumping into the right quarry at the right time and sometimes lads have deliberately held their dogs back until 14-18 months, you will always get an outstanding dog in any litter of all types, I think there are too many second rate lurchers being bred by young lads that have never seen a decent dog give a good account of themselves, the biggest change for me is the amount of bull/crosses out there with poor feet and too heavy to run all night lamping, any 3/4 cross should make a decent runner with enough speed to catch anything, entering makes a difference, once a mistake is made you're pretty much stuck with it, too many rush this process, find 2 good dogs that are doing it and wait for the right pup, WM

Dead right with that W M, though I would disagree with any 3/4 cross having enough speed to catch anything. Seen plenty of 3/4 breds of various x's not have enough speed for hares, even on the lamp, but yeah, the slowest and least agile have been bull x's, even some of the 3/4 x's.

Not meaning to ruffle bull x owners feathers, just saying what I've seen over the years.

The best I've seen have been lurcher x lurcher, deer/grey x collie/grey, deer/grey, collie/grey x whip/grey and a whip/grey. All the above x's were mainly lamped, taking everything.
