blackmaggie 3,376
wonder how many good dogs have had there name ruined by being put at open stud to bitches and put over bitches that are not worthy of the breeding instead of selected bitches like they first were and how many actually breed for sentimental reasons or for profit because a certain stud has been used dont think its a coincident that certain studs keep producing the goods because there only used when the lining has been thoughtfully thought out 1 Quote Link to post
iceman001979 1,316
To many people pick the wrong dog to go to there bitch.Breeding is mad it go right or it can go wrong no matter how good the dam and sire are. Some dogs and bitches just don't work. Some best dogs and bitches can't throw a good pup funny old game this. Icey if yea breed a good dog and bitch the pups should be alright maybe not world beaters but alright .This shite of its all luck thats just it shite if thats the case why not just grab the first dog and bitch yea see and breed them. Then keep yer fingers crossed for 12 or 14 months see they might be world beaters .Some of the hunting men now would make yea laugh how did it ever get to where their was a few decent dogs breed .The men that done it should have done the loto instead if they were as lucky as some people would have yea believe FFSSpeedie am not saying that you won't just sometimes the dog and bitch in a mating won't suit and the pups be no good.Just because dam and sire are top dogs does not mean your going get top pups. When breeding IMO l think you should go to a dog or bitch with something your dog or bitch is missing. And if you have the perfect animal go to something that's as good as it. arcticgun 4,548
The best stud dog excells at what the dam lacks or needs improving on, thats not always gunna be one thats name sells pups for big money. would you breed of a bitch if she was lacking in something apart from size in an ideal world best too best the way forward in breeding, but in reality thats not always possible, sometimes what you desire to use stud wise or line is simply not available too ya when you need it. I keep pure saluki so theres a very small genepool too choose from, even less when you want working ones, so I used a less than perfect bi0ut well bred durable average days sport type of bitch, more of a holding exercise , the bitch I would love too line is one ive seen and ran against a few times not lost but not beaten her, slipped her good few times as well, but my dog getting older and she young and on way up so mans not got any plans to breed her for very long time if ever, so I had little choice but I was lucky and got too see bitch running ovet couple of season and know she maybe better than she ever been given for, she never been anyones number one dog, notnhad her day in sun lol still produced tidy promising pups, early indications are good had I not done this when I had anything could happen too my dog when running and im happy enough too want a pup so I just done it, time will tell rest, perfect one may never come along 1 Quote Link to post
