I've never done target shooting but I'd personally say if your starting to feel bored set yourself harder challenges. Smaller targets comical targets even target darts.

25 meters can be extremely challenging ! You're looking for perfection. It's a challenge to even clip the bull every time, lots to concentrate on in getting your technique right. Forget about telescopic sights, you need some good apeture ones (peep hole).

 

When it comes round to scoring your card they even use a magnifying gauge to see if you have touched the inner ring.

 

Give it a go, I shot .22 for years in the Army. (50 years ago and I've stil got the trophies !)

I've been a member of a club for four years and have been shooting air and .22lr week in, week out. Haven't got bored yet down to the following:

• Good bunch of people down there to interact with and try their guns as well
• Targets have scoring rings, it's just a bit of a competitive nature in me to better my previous scores and look for ways to become more consistent
• Competitions provide good ways of channeling your focus. They can be shot in your own club and scores tallied by a nominated rep then 'posted' to a central point. I'm in three different leagues at the moment with a mixture of team and individual scores
• It helps me stay sharp between going out in the field and gives me confidence in my shooting for when I pull the trigger on something furry or feathery.

I think you'll find it challenging enough. I've just had the latest scores sent out for round three in one of my summer comps and scores ranged from 136 to 196 out of 200 across the various divisions so don't think it's easy just because it's not 50 / 75 yards.

 

Chances are you've got six months worth of probation to pass whilst collecting signatures from the club's committee to demonstrate they're happy to shoot with you. You'll need to shoot regularly and consistently through this period to gain your FAC, if you think it's going to be (or find it) boring then don't sign up for it as it'll be a waste of time for you and the club. Just find yourself some land and use that as your good reason.

 

If you just have the club as your reason then you'll be stuck with using your gun on the range (or approved one) rather than out in the field and you won't be able to buy the expanding ammunition which is best for hunting. Worth thinking about before kicking off.

 

Best of luck though, I find it a cracking sport and wouldn't swap it for the world.

Providing their is adequate back stops then it shouldn't be a problem mate

Target shooting is about the search for perfection, odds are you will never get there, all be it 25 or 1000yards. Whilst there is always external competition the main competition is with yourself.

If you get bored trying you need another sport!
