I think it's just a case of stop f***ing about and get the f***ing thing ?? )

A slow to medium canter isn't stalking imo. Stalking to me is the silly skulking they do in the low to the ground stance. I seen dogs go down the beam real steady which at times is a god send due to

Where is it deemed a fault??? I personaly love to see it.   Pernod

To me it matter's Allan.. .. as i want the run done and the dog back on the slip ASAP ready for the next dog..i get among a lot of rabbit's in the beggining of the season and part way through and it would be soul destroying if i was taking turn's on the slip's in field that will hold 50+ bunnies... only for my mate's dog to stalk it's bunnie and in the proccess scattering a fair few while we are stood waiting in a flood lit field.. :D ... at the end of the day though it's each to there own.. if i only ran half a dozen in a lamping trip a may well be able to live with a stalker..

It depends on the reason why your, some like my self do it for the love of the sport , some for a living but you get some who couldn't give a toss the more rabbits they get the more cash in hand they get drone back street sales !!

Nothing against it at all before the knockers start ! for me and many like me, just love been out lamping, ferrting or even with the gun it's not about the numbers it's about been there at what ever time or place doing what you love if my dog stalks it's because he has a plan if he kills it's a good plan if not he will learn from his mistake and for battery's I just split the night in two half's a short brake cup of tea a little rest for the dog and swap batters

my old dog use to stalk squatters all the time. he would wait for me to walk upto them. some nights when they flicked there ears up and started listening to me he would sometimes come in from the side and pic them straight up.

frustrating at times but he still give me hours of time out in the field and had some decent bags of rabbits. 44 being his best bag.

Your post suggests that if a man dislikes a dog which stalks the lamp then he is numbers orientated and not in it for the sport? Maybe I've read you wrong. But I don't think that's true at all. Some lads don't mind and some lads do. Regardless of why they are in the field.

I do it for the love of the sport. But numbers DO come into it from time to time. I don't think that makes me any less in love with the sport? I'm happy to go out and get 4s and 5s local. But now and again I like to travel further afield and I go out with the sole intention of getting big numbers.

And if I am somewhere where I can potentially bag 40/50 rabbits then I don't want to be waiting for a dog to make it's move. I want to flick the lamp on and the dog be down that beam before the light hits the rabbit. Lol.

In stalking rabbits I'm not on about the dog on his belly dragging himself to the rabbit I'm on about a slow to medium canter upto the squatting rabbit ??? I mean come on your all big men how many times has your dogs belted up the beam only to over shoot by 20 mile or the rabbit leaving it's seat and running to the dog again over running ,it's good to watch and pleasing you that your dog has just made a very big mistake ! It's not isit for having the lamp on to long I disagree flashing the lamp on and off all the time would Spook the rabbits more and love stock in the field than keeping it on for an extra 20 30 seconds which it would take from the dog trying to make back the seconds it's lost on the over run

You get after it then Millet I can't fault you. To be honest I'm quite happy being out 2,3 hours lamping but if out for longer not a problem. I have no targets but just enjoy it.

I only lamp for 2/3hr's myself and my last night of the season i got 4 rabbit's in heavy fog..not many i know but the dog done good in the condition's and the barby was mint afterward's.. :D

I do feast on my reward's matey but shot or ferreted bunnies.. at the end of the night's lamping it's burger's and sausage. :D i do how ever have two chest freezer's that get filled with legged and headed rabbit's.. at the end of the season they get minced with various other thing's and feed the dog's for a good few monthes..the last lot i done i got 230lb of mince which the pooches love..
