I only learned recently that a couple of rabbiting boys from down south, were awarded the contract,on the wee island of 'Canna ' ,up here off the west coast. The same place had a massive rat problem, previous to this, but unfortunately an outfit from New Zealand, got it that time.So im obviously glad it went to a crowd from these shores at least LOL, (even though their englishmen !!) he-he-he.

I have seen some pics from the job and it doesn't look like the everyday rabbit job, wind pushing water upwards, giving 4 feet windage at 50 yard shot, top blokes doing though

The rat baiting gig went to some pro's from New Zealand,...it cost thousands !

Was chatting with the Contractor recently and he mentioned how difficult it was to move rabbits with the ferrets..

The rabbits seemed to stick tight, rather than bolt ... :hmm:

He also told me that they had to travel back into England in order to sell the rabbits.

The National Trust owns Canna and, in this instance, they were not keen on risking lost ferrets, possibly ending up, as the only predators on the Island,..so it was strictly a shooting and fence erecting job...I should think Leader,..the Scottish based drop box company, ..would have had a fair old earner..and I bet the gun barrels were red hot, and them drop boxes were clanging away, like there was no tomorrow.

I have hunted on a few Scottish Islands and they are great for the sport and craic,...but, I must admit,..for us darn sarf, it really is,...... one hell of a journey...

Sadly, nowadays, its a bridge too far, but, a unique experience to stay with a man, forever...

I did wonder(at the time) if this 'one' would have interested you ,or not mate, lol. It would have been good to know, what kind of 'price' you would have forwarded, for it also. ha-ha.Interesting info, as always.......
