Grass Cutting And Hedge Cutting Rates Of Pay .?

whats all this x amount per hour ?? don't you just quote the job ?? I was always under the impression if you pay ph then they'd drag it out but if you pay per job then they want it done to move to the next :hmm: :hmm:

Yes must admit i prefer to quote for the job,and probably 95% of my work is on this basis but some folk especially if moneys tight will say can you give me a couple of hours hence the hourly rate.

Like you say a price is better all round as you and the customer know the score for the job involved .But you should see the looks you get on a £100 job and your done in 2 hours, they forget you got machinery, petrol, tax insurance, waste disposal etc etc.

And the ones with money are the bloody worse!!

spot on mate!!!

i priced up a job the other week, some huge conifer hedges surrounding a tudor house............two lads, two days, £450 all in!!! at first the guy said why so much lol but we explained that we use over £2000 worth of tackle (hedge trimmers, chainsaws and blowers) two cans of two stroke, diesel in the truck, disposal before we even had a wage!!!

tbh i think we under priced it as i no he got a couple more quotes and when he rang back he was keen as mustard for us to do it!!!!

we had to put the tower scaffolding on the truck to reach the top lol and that was the easy bits on the road they were a nightmare round the back!!!

we had three ratchet straps on it mate........we were shaking f**k out of it before we went up and it was solid and it was probably safer using it like that than on the floor tbh!!!! it was either do that and get the job done or stand there like a pair of kunts looking at it........ :hmm:

and i think the two jobs we got on the same road after that kind of disproves that last theory........ :D;)

your right mate i quote per job,im my opinion any garden business that charges per hour is on the route for going under ive read into it many times and witnessed it me sen.

Price the job fair to you and then custy get it done do the next job i bang em out all day make hay whilst yer can in this game.a hard winter can cause you a lot of cash flow probs so i put away big time.

Done a bit of tidying up gardens for people when 'regular' work dried up, nice to be outside, but as said seasonal and weather!!

Worked for a landscaper years ago (as a chippy) his brother in law was a fancy gardner on the telly etc, was only there a fortnight and he had wangled a pitch at Chelsea flower show, so wanted a stand knocking up, bloody went and won a gold for trade stands! Unfinished in photo... the fella started as a tree surgeon, then landscaper with a few good blokes behind him, ended up with a big fancy garden centre. People do spend on their garden.
